WOW

Man, that was my favorite game of the year so far. That's literally as entertaining as this sport can get on a random Tuesday night. Like, if you don't watch these, why are you watching the sport? Don't like drama? Risk? Catharsis?

I sort of like watching our team battle and scrape and use the entire bench and win a dramatic road game in the 11th. But maybe that's just me.

@tzill I was harsh upthread, I apologize but dude...you are missing some really fun baseball games. These guys are still a playoff team, these games matter...and they are spectacles for us to spectate! Hang in with us!

GREAT win!

By the way Luis Gonzalez is firmly in the rookie of the year race, looking better than....that Seiya Suzuki kid I was hyping. Oops...not upset LOL

Just looking at box scores...Goldschmidt is killing it right now, like MVP leader numbers .352/.422/.626 11 HRs

(and Pederson is sneaky kinda on his trail .277/.353/.613 12 HRs)

Enjoying things overall first 2 months in

You could save time by not showing up at all, since so few games hold your interest
Most games "hold my interest." The 6-4 in the third games, not so much. Manfredball, hard pass. Still leaves 90% of the season tho.

Tzill missed his coreligionist with the towering bomb. Oh well

BOOM!
Very pleased to see the Jewbomb this morning. Not willing to watch Manfredball to see it.

Definitely a drama filled game; glad you enjoyed it. Manfredball isn't my cup of tea, but I have no problem if it's yours. Great win..

This isn't being talked about enough. That StL kid too. I hope they all stay healthy.

Your persnickety aesthetic rigidity is retarded. @calsnowskier hates the DH, he's still watching. Some of us are fans of a team called the Giants. We watch them as they play baseball and try to win titles. You do that to some extent, then have better things to do if the details of the game flow don't conform to your exact specifications. It's borderline autistic. But it's a free country, you have every right to be insane about this.

And you're missing a great sport and a fun team. Oh well.

He has, by a solid margin, the best OPS of all rookies so far (with at least 100 PA).

Gonzalez, SF .874
Pena, Hou .820
Yepez, StL .796
Suzuki, ChC .775
Siri, Hou .748

Per BBRef, he is only 7th in WAR, though…

Peña Hou 2.5
Siri Hou 1.4
Rodriguez Sea 1.2
Kwan Cle 1.1
Perdomo Ari 1.0
Rivera KC 0.8
Gonzalez SF 0.8
Huff Tex 0.8

That last relief appearance really hurt him.
I know you mean that in jest, but the WAR number they use ignores pitching stats. It is only for “position player” numbers. They don’t specify the actual calc, but it is called “WAR / pos”.

Yes, it was in jest.

Looking at your list, the top 4 are all AL players. The only other NL player is Perdomo and his WAR is barely higher.

“If the season ended today”…

Gonzalez would probably have to be the NL ROY, but it would probably go to Yepez or Suzuki due to name recognition.

I don't know, I think he has a legitimate chance, even with the "if the season ended today". I have to think that Suzuki's pediastrian numbers will work even more so against him, considering his name recognition and expectations coming out of Japan. Juan Yepez, however, may be the frontrunner.

By the way, BBRef lists Gonzalez' pitching WAR at 0.0. So its neutral for his overall numbers.
