We've won with less.
Have we?

2010 -- Cain, Bum, Sanchez, Lincecum all had good to excellent years.
2012 -- Cain, Bum, Tron
2014 -- Peavy, Bum
2016 -- Bum, Cueto, Sammy
2017 -- Bum

Seems to me that you need at least 2, if not 3 solid to excellent pitchers.

I don't know if a couple of months of Cueto nets you "a top 75 prospect or 2."

I doubt it.
I beg to differ. Look what we paid for couple months of a China Doll. Look at what the Cubs paid for a couple months of Chapman...

Trade him to the D'Backs. They pay top dollar.
Isn't that kinda like saying "I am starting a ponze scheme. Where is Madoff's Rolodex?"

Yeah, you have identified the sucker, but the sucker has already been fleeced.

Okay Mr. Bigshot, who would you fleece. . . er, look for in a trade partner for Cueto?

2014 was Bum and only Bum. We got 1 good start out of Peavy.

I don't know if a couple of months of Cueto nets you "a top 75 prospect or 2."

I doubt it.

Last time Cueto was traded, he netted the 55th best prospect (Finnegan) and Reed was highly regarded at the time of the trade (didn't make any lists preseason, but at mid season was on the map), then was the 33rd best prospect in 2016 (both ranked by BA). He was a FA after that season (came to us!).

Half a year of Rich Hill and Reddick netted the A's Jharel Cotton, Frankie Montas, and Grant Holmes. Holmes was ranked 72nd pre-season by BA, and Cotton, like Reed, highly regarded at the time of trade. Jump into 84 this season.

David Price got the 18th best prospect Daniel Norris for half a season.

That's just until 2015 when I started getting tired. I probably missed a deal or 2 anyway.

It's possible.

Take another look at his stats: 78.2 innings of 2.17 pitching WHIP of 1 and K/BB rate of 3.5, only 3 HRs.

He pitched damn well, and not just "one start."

I thought we were talking about the post season.

Nope, the context was trading JC and the point I was trying to make (maybe not very well) is that a team contending needs 2-3 really good pitchers to do so.

Let's hope Cueto is still really good...not so far this year

Well, my initial thought was "we've won with less (than two pitchers)" was in reference to the 2016 post season and Bum.

But as it is, even if we trade Cueto, and if Bum returns, we're still certainly more than one pitcher. Sammy has been very good, despite some bad luck. Cain, Moore, and Blach could be better, but they've given some pretty good starts among bad ones.

None of this matters, though. If the Giants are contending, they are NOT trading Cueto. He will only be shopped if the Giants are sellers.
