Hmmm. I can't find today's batting order yet - it's usually up more than 2 hours before the game. Oh well.

I propose a 4-3 victory for the heroes in black & gold.

Shulman tweets:

Gillaspie optioned, Blackley DFAd, Affeldt reinstated, Culberson recalled. Blackley still can (and likely will) stay in organization.

Baggs tweet:

Bochy on infield with Pill, Culberson, Crawford, Arias and Hector Sanchez: "I love young players! Gotta change that stigma."

and:

Bochy anointed Arias the everyday third baseman until Sandoval returns.

Manny Burriss, the "guy who impressed" in Spring Training, is currently hitting .231/.296/ .231 /.527

Ouch. Memo to self : continue to ignore ST stats (and loudly insist that they are useless). Also, add "Burriss" to list of "why player's ST stats don't mean squat".

What? Posey is sitting? Against a lefty? I thought the plan was to beat him into the ground this season. (Dude has played 30 of 33 games so far this season. He is 7 for his last 42 (.167), all singles, with 2 walks and 12 K's.)

Grant over on Mccovey Chronicles has this in his gameday post :

Lineup of the year? Lineup of the year. I count exactly two hitters who should be starting a game for a major-league baseball team.

If you pull this game out, I'll be amazed.

lots of this  going on today

Off topic: we've sung the praises of the Melkman so far this year. Amazing trade to fit team needs. I've heard he will be a free agent next year. What's the overall thoughts about locking him up for 2-3 years?

He could cement LF and leave the Center and Left open for competition of the young guys coming up.

So long as he doesn't ask for a Rowand-esque contract, I think that it would be a good signing. And he can play CF if Brown needs another year (which so far this year, it looks like he does).

2-3 years sounds ok to me. Otherwise flip him at the trading deadline, if the Giants fall out of it.

Agreed. I could see offering him 2yr/$15 mill or 3yr/$20 mill - something in that range, although I confess I am somewhat pulling those numbers out of my butt.

He's worth more than the $6 mill he's getting now, and it would be nice to keep a (pretty much) proven ML hitter, though I don't want to make a commitment for too long. Best is to develop our own, and we do have some prospects that could break through.
