I don't think they were looking for a veteran leader, just a veteran arm in case Smitty goes down so they don't have to start Kap before he's ready and potentially ruin his career.

He did OK (and I stress just OK) with the Raiders a couple of years back when he started some games for them. He's probably a step up from Carr, but he's not going to take the team to the promised land.

IMO the problem starts at the top.

Yorks need to take a long walk off a short pier.

Smith isn't the answer. Gawd I can't stand the thought of another year with him.

Not to be a stick in the mud but I don't have high hopes for Kap either.

Not long term. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but I am not holding my breath.

I rather they sign Daunte maybe they still have plans for him too. Let him and McCown battle it out for the 3rd spot a lil competition dont hurt nobody

Does it really matter who the 3rd QB is? If the 49ers are playing him, then the season has gone really downhill. Which would make the two trolls in this thread exceedingly happy.

I see Kap doing well, he will work very hard to be the best he can be in the NFL. We both know first hand that when he really wants something he gets it.

he just needs a year or two to ajust.

Stafford on a seperated shoulder is better than Daunte. What makes you think Smith/McCown on a good shoulder is not better than Daunte at this point of his career. I hate to break it down for you, but Daunte is garbage now. He's not the player he used to be. The man is washed up! It was almost embarrassing enough for our name to be circulating with Daunte. I tried my best to denied the rumors with my boys so they won't ridicule us. But thanks to mass media, they got word of the news being legitimate.

We'll see. I don't share your optimism.

I think its clear at this point that they only wanted an emergency arm, McCown is a hot poop sandwich. I was hoping they would bring in Culpepper for leadership and experience but they decided to add neither.

That's funny it looks like coldpecker backed up McCown on the Raiders.

McCown's wiki says he got six stitches on his throwing hand holding firewood for his brother to cut. Somehow I don't think we're dealing with the sharpest marble.

Smith will be fine. This is the year he breaks out. He's got good support and coaching.

How many games has he even started? Hopefully smith stays healthy.

I don't know if you're really freebase67 or an idiot trying to be funny, but I'm giving you an infraction regardless because of the shit you're trying to stir with that name/avatar. I hope two more give you infractions so you can GTFO.

:peace:

Kind of a waste of a roster spot though. If the Alex Smith experiment fails again this year, they should at least have a quarterback available who can play, don't you think?

Certainly a waste of a roster spot. He offers nothing to oir team but an emergency arm but from what I understand they added an extra roster spot for this purpose

I really don't see a giant leap from McCown to Culpepper. I know that football is the ultimate team sport, but if either of these guys had anything left to offer, they should have been dominant in the minor leagues of the UFL. Instead, they were both pretty crappy.

It's just a bad year for trying to add a QB. We already knew that when the 49ers were pretty much left with Alex Smith as the best guy available to them.
