Jake, with all due respect, I have watched every Niner game for three decades now. Comparing Turbin to Hunter is laughable, not in talent but in the role each plays in their respective offenses. Gore is a couple years older then Lynch and has been nicked up throughout his career. Hunter was a guy that truly spelled Gore in terms of running between the tackles. His loss was felt. As far as Kyle Williams, I will disagree with you on his worth only because he was multi-dimensional. You will look at his WR stats and assume he was a joke. i look at him post-Alex Smith and his contributions to ST as a key factor as well. If you want to discount injuries to guys who don't miss time, that's fair, although I disagree because we aren't talking about a pulled hammy here. Staley and Aldon both tore their labrums halfway through the season and I def believe it affected their play. Iupati had a knee procedure done immediately after the Super Bowl and it wasn't documented as to what it was as far as I know or have read.
I do agree that we have been somewhat lucky with the health of Justin Smith and Ray McDonald given their 85+% snap rates but based on this year's draft, I am assuming that will be ending soon.
Lastly, I didn't say FAIR share, I simply said their share, meaning it is not as if they have been injury free. Our injuries just haven't happened to our starters as frequently as others.
Fair enough statements.
Still, even with Hunter and Williams factored in, the 9ers have been one of, if not the least injured teams to starters and key contributors over the last couple of years (note: injuries causing missed games). It isn't even preseason and it appears that this will not be the case this year.
I have always been of the theory that avoiding injuries is key to teams making big post-season runs. You look at the history of champions and their injury situations and they typically have managed to avoid having many serious injuries to key players.
