My goodness Baalke, a little hasty with this signing. I really hope we're not trying to pair up Tarell Brown and Tramaine Brock for the next 2-4 years. That would be awful, especially if the young receivers in our division can develop.

if they project him to remain the starter, a quality starter, then VERY good deal. if they project him the 3rd CB, and capable spot starter, then still a good deal.

cause don't the highest paid CB's get near $10M/year?

that's the tough thing with these extensions, if you wait till they're REALLY proven, the price is much higher. sign them a little early, and you run the risk of wasted cap?

maybe it is a little hasty in this case, but Brock has enough time in the 49er scheme. he also has 49er game experience, granted not as a starter. so there is some film to base it on, and don't think it was HEAVY on projecting?

Plus now we have him and Cully at least for next year.
Rogers may not take a pay cut, Brown is in his final year, and Wright still has to show what he's got.

I like this move just on the basis of being an insurance policy. Still feel we need to draft a CB in the first two rounds of this years draft.

Maybe they worry that Culliver may not make it back.

great job by the front office. this is why they are one of the best. keep your young players and pay them when they produce. give this move an A.

Awesome signing! I love it! This guy has rocked all year long and looks to be the starter of the future. With Culliver coming back next year, we get much younger and more athletic at CB.

The 4-yr, $16M deal Tramaine Brock landed was essentially what the 49ers were offering Tarell Brown, who now seems destined for free agency.

Good. Re-signing Brown would be a big mistake IMO.

Why? He has been exceptional.

I am not a fan of this move. Brock has been good this year, but absolutely terrible in past seasons. This really does seem hasty.

I'm not a fan of the move either, but re-signing Brown would be an even worse move. And I think you're handing out "exceptionals" a little easily.

Terrell Brown couldn't even cover Tony Gonzales in the NFC Championship game last year, and his play has gotten a little worse. He's peaked, and he was nothing special to begin with. That doesn't exactly scream "sign me to a big, long-term contract." Especially considering he's had the benefit of an amazing pass rush the last couple of years.

Why? Is it the money? He isn't an elite corner but he's not getting paid like an elite corner. The number looks just about right in my opinion.

Because Brock is extremely replaceable. I don't like paying 4 million a season to a guy like that.

Maybe. The pass rush has been good but give a guy some credit. Havent looked at his stats, I admit, but the secondary has played well this season and he has been the the best CB on the team since the the Superbowl and the most consistent for the past few years. Niners could do much worse than Brown at CB. I think he would be worth the the long term contract. Not elite money but the next tier down.

I think the best route to go is to draft a CB high next year and let Culliver & whatever later-round CB or stop-gap guy battle it out for the other spot. Now that Brock is aboard, he might be that #2 guy.

Culliver is a guy I'd want the Niners to sign long term. He'd be worth the risk, and he'd probably come relatively cheap. JMHO.

I might be on board with keeping Culliver over Brown. He looked exceptional last season but god awful in the SB. Culliver coupled with Brock/unknown seems a risky proposition
