I thought Noggin flat out declared him so not long after Weezy went down? In any case, I agree.

He said that they were gonna go by committee immediately following the announcement. After that, I hadn't heard, but I hoped/assumed that Casilla would win the job. His change-up is filthy. If Romo had his change-up, he would be the closer. For now, him and Lopez are the best situational set-up men in the game. They just can't consistently pitch well against their dominant-hand opposites.

I remember him saying that but then I remember him saying soon after he'd decided to just give it to Casilla. And Casilla has been the guy pretty much in every save situation.

Except when he pulled him for the three lefties that Boch wanted Affeldt to face in the ninth of the weekend game in New York. You don't do that to a guy that has officially won the job. That is closer by committee. If you heard Boch mention it earlier this week, then he has officially won the job. Actually, no matter what, after today, he definitely won the job, so it doesn't matter.

Closers are so weird. Heath Bell is terrible so far this year (just blew another one to go to 0-3). He was the coveted guy before.

Except for Mariano I can't really think of any current closers that could be counted on to be amazing for say 5+ years. Maybe Nathan?

Kimbrel, maybe Storen when he gets off the DL, and possibly Reed if the CWS ever let him close. A lot of these new, bred to be closers prospects are pretty damn lights out.

Kimbrel, maybe Storen when he gets off the DL, and possibly Reed if the CWS ever let him close. A lot of these new, bred to be closers prospects are pretty damn lights out.

Reed is apparently being groomed for closer. If their current guy has more performances like yesterday's kablooey, maybe he takes over mid season.

But in any case there are always hot young closers, it's just that they seem to have 2-4 good to great years, and then most get hurt or just start sucking. Rivera is a freaking miracle.
