Kuip today suggested that Chez3 might start catching Bum as well as Zeets. Posey to 1B one of those games?

As one of the beat guys wrote: with the good AB Chez3 is putting up, if no one steps up to take the 1B job then Bochy might have Posey take more AB there.

Agreed; I thought it was interesting that Kuip suggested he catch two fixed starters, both lefties.

I think Nate's defense is underrated also.

This. 500%. (Well, if you meant "how important defense is, and how great defense can merit starting a guy that doesn't hit super well because his defense is so fantastic".)

There's no defensive stat I know of that easily shows # of runs saved by a great OF through not just catching up to balls, but playing the caroms properly to throw out runners, as well as having the arm that stops runners from even trying to go 1st-to-3rd, or stretching a single into a double. Nate has that.

If you haven't seen it yet, watch this :

I missed most of the game, but I guess Ike Davis struck out on a questionable call. Here's the pitchfx chart on the AB:

The strike 3 pitch looked a lot lower live.

That was an awesome video. I loved the minimalist simplicity of the music.

Couple things could be gong on. The pitch had a lot of movement, and it's where the ball crosses the front of the plate, and not where the catcher catches it. But perhaps more importantly: I've noticed with the pitchfx system that the top and bottom zones can vary a lot for any particular hitter in any particular atbat (by inches). They actually have a human set those for every atbat, so there's potential for "large" error there. When I do my heatmaps, I average all the recorded top and bottom zones for a hitter as a way to minimize the error. This assumes the errors are random, of course, which may not be valid. I'm not sure what brooks.net does - they may just take the raw data as is and chart that. And if that is so, then, if the top or bottom zone does not look "right" to you, suspect error on the part of the pitchfx operator.
