Because 52x7=364, not 365. 365 days a year is a thing. 52 weeks a year is not a thing.

But then there's leap years.

When I worked at GE, we got paid weekly. One's annual salary was divided by 52.166869, and that was one's weekly salary. That accounted for leap years, and for leap years when it wasn't a leap year.
