I did not see it, but I heard the call on the radio...

WTF was Oxy doing on the Melky ground-out to 1B? Was there any excuse for his not scoring?

That ball was very sharply hit. As soon as McGehee gloved the ball, he looked right at Oxy and then ran toward the bag. Had Pagan broken for home, he would have been thrown out by a country mile.

Oxy did the right thing by not breaking for the plate IMO.

Yup. Especially when you consider they were down by 3 runs and that was the 1st out of the inning. If he gets thrown out there, fans bitch again for getting throw out there.

Right play in my opinion.

Jon seemed to be shocked he didn't score on that play. He reasoned that the Pirates weren't going to risk not getting an out on that play and would've conceded the run.

His reaction was the basis of my question. Like I sad, I did not see it.

Miller's reasoning seemed pretty sound, though. The P's are 6 outs away from a win, with a 3 run lead. Letting 1 run score, while clearing the bases and getting 5 outs from a win would be a good trade in their minds.

For the giants, being down 2 with the heart coming up is WAY better than being down 3.

Miller even mentioned that Melky looked pissed that Oxy did not score.

I didn't see it either, heard Jon's reaction as well. If I were to speculate, Pagan got caught off guard if it were a sharp liner, but I would expected a runner to be moving on contact in that situation. I'm assuming the infield was playing back (for those of you who watched)?

Pagan probably could have scored, but after Melky grounded out, there was only 1 out in the inning with Pablo and Posey coming up.

I don't understand what you mean here. The heart of the order did come up.

Of course he did, it's his contract year.

The infield was playing back, but the ball was hit very well. I appreciate Jon Miller, but I think his frustrations are misplaced here. In my humble opinion, that play wasn't a huge deal on the outcome. Sandoval and Posey had a chance to knock Pagan in.

Bottom line, Pagan could have scored there. He also could have been thrown out at the plate and had two outs and nobody on with Pablo and Posey coming up.
