I wish that were true, but I don't think it accurately reflects the NFLPA's position on the issue in the last CBA negotiation. Maybe next time around it'll be different, but I'm not as optimistic as you.

I think both sides prefer it the way it is. The current structure allows the NFL to be reactive with their decisions and do what's best for bottom line, as each issue is not only unique but increasingly transparent to the public.

If you think Goodell wanted to suspend Guion for 3 games, you don't know Roger. If he actually could just hand out punishment as he sees fit, Guion probably would never see an NFL field again. The reason it is only 3 games is the agreement between the NFLPA and the NFL.

The reason Brady got 4 games is that Goodell does have a lot of wiggle room for suspending players for cheating where he doesn't have a lot of wiggle room for off the field arrests anymore.
