Yup, when Bob Cole was a young pup (I think I was 10 or 11 years old, but I remember it clear as day).

Tks for clip Dash-never gets old.
Never, ever been more proud to be a Canadian hockey fan,and then a Flyers fan.

Do you believe in Al Michaels? Yes!

Whenever I want to get pumped, I play this clip. The absolute intensity of that crowd with a minute to go is unmatched. You could have pulled any 6 from that audience, suited them up in hockey gear, put them on the ice and the Soviets still wouldn't have been able to score. :becky:

I was 10 and honestly, I don't remember even hearing anything about it at the time. I didn't get into hockey until I was a senior in high school in 88.

damn straight!

I was 10 at the time as well and we had just moved from GR to that shitehole Uniontown, Pa (still hate my parents for that one) less than a year earlier. Watched it with my dad and loved it, but I really had no idea of the significance of it, both hockey-wise or politically, at the time.

I do remmeber going to school after and trying to talk to my friends about it and them looking at me with no idea WTF I was talking about....hockey has come a long way in SW PA since then.

Fourteen of the players on the US team were from the WCHA, the league that I was refereeing in at the time. I was reffing a game at Denver University when the score of the US-USSR game was announced and there was a big roar from the crowd.

Bob Johnson, was coaching at the U of Wisconsin at that time and he was in Colorado Springs for a weekend series between Wisconsin and Colorado College. One of the referees in that series was talking to him after the Friday night game and convinced Johnson to skip the Saturday night game, let his assistant coach take the game and go to Lake Placid for the gold medal game on Sunday, which he did and he saw his son Mark win a gold medal.

88 IN THA HOUSE!!

I remember getting a call from my cousin (who was like a big brother/father figure to me - and the guy who got me interested in hockey) who was listening to it on the drive home from Penn State. He said "I know you're watching - I am coming straight to your house, hope to get there for the third period."

He got there just as the third started, and we watched it together. Unbelievable moment.

About when Yzerman joined the Wings! I was 25 going on 26... Remember it very clearly, also remember what a great moment in a depressed economy period.
