I had an idea for the next draft, shoot holes in it if it sucks. It wouldn't work in hoops. but could play in football or baseball with 25-30 man roster. Take 5 random years, like 1974, 1988, 1993, 2001, 2012.... and have a 6 round draft from those years, only 1st or 2nd year players eligible. So if 1974 were first, you could only draft a player who debuted in 1973 or 1974.
I think if there were say 10 guys drafting, once the 1-10 order was set, we'd draft the first year with no reverse order....meaning the guy who picked #1 would also pick #11. BUT, when the year changed to 88, team #1 picks 10th, #2 picks 9th, and #3 has the first overall pick in the new year...that way, on the 5th year, #'s 9 and 10 are making the first picks of the draft and everyone picked top, middle and bottom of the draft
I think this would add a lot of strategy to the draft. Say it were football, it would be easy to draft the best player available in year one, but by the 5th year, you would be passing on a lot of stud players you no longer need, which would mean lots of trading
I think we could do it basically like a real draft, meaning you could trade for future picks, trade up or down, or player for player
Thoughts?
