My mom used to always tell this old fable of a guy that gets captured by a king and is headed for the guillotine.
He says "wait if you give me one year I can make your horse talk."
The fancy king (whom would love to have a fancy talking horse to show to his fancy friends) says, "okay you have exactly one year in prison and daily time with the horse, then it's your head."
On his way to his cell he is asked by a guard, "can you really make the horse talk?"
He says, "I don't know, but a lot can happen in a year. I could die. The king could die. Or gosh darn it the horse just might talk."
