We had a guy who showed up occasionally for our Tuesday Night Hockey group. Great group of guys, great fun and exercise, good times with beer and chips afterward,, too. I made it to 70 years old with these guys. Let's say we weren't all that good.

Anyway, we'll call our friend Scott, because, well, that's his name. He's s Asian American, maybe Japanese. Before one international hockey competition some years back, he was recruited by his heritage country to play for them. He looked at them with a laugh in wide-eyed astonishment. He was at least 40, and the huge scar on his chest isn't from a fight in the NHL but rather from serious open-heart surgery.

Sometimes countries go too far. But shit, I'd do it, just to say I got on the ice with guys like Ovechkin or Crosby.

Should’ve done this from the start. This way you don’t have to alter the schedule.

Maybe it's just me but I would not understand canceling/postponing games now but then allowing the players to travel to China in a month.

Especially if a player tests positive for COVID and he has to remain in China for 3 weeks or more.

plus now they need the time to make up some of these games
(assuming the omicron flattens, and the season isn't just toast)

Or you know we could just cancel the 2022 Winter Olympics entirely and leave China footing the bill...

As of right now I am still slated to go to Beijing to represent my country in online posting*, but we have been told to await further instructions in regards to a cancellation or postponement. I'm excited even though the opening ceremonies uniform is a little tight 'down there' and the venue is supposed to be very cold.

*apparently it was my series of posts about Calista the Barista that garnered the attention of the National Olympic Committee

Last true best-on-best tournament was 2014 in Sochi.

They made the right decision but not having the tournament sucks.
