Shelton looks like a good hire. Heard a lot of great things about his baseball intelligence and how where he goes good hitting seems to follow. Sounds like a guy who was going to eventually be a manager one day if not here.
Honestly I didn't know much about him except the Twins hitters were very good under him.

On a different note too bad old GMNH traded him when he had value: Nick Kingham Signs With KBO's SK Wyverns and the fall from being a top prospect.

With all the players DFA'd recently I really don't understand how Neveranout is still on the 40 man roster?
I guarantee any rule 5 pickup can do just as well or better than him in spot relief situations.

Diaz non-tendered. Shame he never developed but good to see them move on. Now the burning question is who?
Stallings is not the answer and wonder if they go after a Toronto Catcher (IE...bring back McGuire?)

So as of now the only major league signing has been Luke Maile.
And if the rumor is true that Nimmo is the biggest chip back for Marte from the Mets they are in full tank mode and will be lucky to win 60 games next year.

How is it that the Pirates can NEVER get one of another team's top two or three prospects in these trades?

Look around baseball. Players less talented than Marte get traded for better return for all the time.

Yeah it is mindnumbing at this point.

And naturally they came out and stated this right after trading Marte. :L

I would have hoped they could have gotten 1 more high end prospect in addition to what they got. New year, same stuff IMO

Well, it cant be as bad as the Archer trade, so our new gm has that going for him. Oh and I forgot the even bigger mistake, not trading Vazquez last trade deadline.

Just remember the Kenta Meada just got the #3 prospect from the Twins who was #53 in the top 100, shows how poor the Marte trade was.

Wahooo Jarrod Dyson, on the positive note he is good defensively to help protect the pitching.

26-man:

Stallings, Bell, Frazier, Newman, Moran, Reynolds, Dyson, Polanco
Maile, Osuna, Gonzalez, Heredia, Kramer/Tucker
Archer, Williams, Musgrove, Brault, Kuhl
Crick, Kela, Rodriguez, Feliz, Stratton, Santana, Burdi, one open spot

Bat Dyson 9th to try to capture his speed before the top of the order?
Newman, Frazier, Reynolds, Bell, Moran, Polanco, Stallings, pitcher, Dyson

Heredia hits LHP decently and Dyson is better against RHP so maybe they platoon and both field the late innings to protect a lead + keep Polanco from having to make late inning throws. A defensive outfield with Reynolds, Dyson and Heredia could save a fun runs.
