2019 was a lost year. I think Searage is good with vets but not with young guys. Hurdle seems to have lost the clubhouse. Time for Hurdle to go and Searage to go or add a second pitching coach that works with the younger guys.
The positives from 2019: Reynolds, Newman, Vazquez, Marte, Cabrera, Stallings
The TBD from 2019: Bell, Moran, Osuna, Feliz, Brault
The bad: starting pitching staff and most relievers, Diaz and Frazier took a step back
The 2020 team is essentially already in place. They need a couple guys to take a big step forward.
The team in 2020 with what is currently in place:
Diaz, Bell, Frazier, Newman, Moran, Reynolds, Marte, Polanco
Stallings, Osuna, Gonzalez, Reyes, Kramer/Martin/Tucker
Archer, Williams, Musgrove, Brault, Kuhl/Agrazal (Taillon starts on IL)
Vazquez, Crick, Kela, Rodriguez, Feliz, Stratton, Markel/Santana/Ramirez/Hartlieb
This team needs a significant addition to the SP to be competitive. I think the position players are set and several of them can take another step forward next year. Frazier needs to be around .300 or back to a utility roll. I think Marte has 2 or 3 30-30 seasons in him. The lineup should all be .275-.325 hitters. Osuna can rotate between 1B/3B/RF.
Batting Order: Newman, Reynolds, Marte, Bell, Moran/Osuna, Polanco, Frazier, Diaz
This team would be exciting if they could pry Lux and Smith/Ruiz for Vazquez in the off season and add a SP. Feliz seems to be figuring it out and could be a future late inning guy along with Crick and Kela could close if they don't trade him this off season.
