The last giant to hit 20 HR in a season is Stamos with 21 in 2015. This year, four guys have a chance to do it:

1. :kev: 19 HR
2. Yaz 18 HR
3. Longo 17 HR
4. BB9 16 HR

With 28 games left, here's how they project

:kev: 23
Yaz 22
Longo 21
Belt 19

I'd like to see BB9 do it. Maybe a short hot streak of a few days gets him over?

13 of the final 28 are on the road (Busch, Latrine, Fenway, Sun Trust); these are ranked in order as the 28th, 12th, 24th, and 13th easiest stadia to hit HRs in this year. Oracle is, of course, 30th.

I guess I'm surprised that Fenway is so tough, but I'm thinking that's largely a result of the monster and RHH. Belt should actually have an advantage in Boston. I had no idea Busch is such a pitchers park. Too bad we don't have another series in Toronto or Denver.

On another note, here's how the following players project for HRs in 2019 given a relatively healthy year on the ML roster (approx 500 PAs)

Belt -- 19
Pillar -- 23
Craw -- 11
Longo -- 21
Buster -- 8
Yaz -- 29
Panda -- 24
Vogt -- 18
Dick -- 22
Austin -- 27
Duggar -- 7

What a season it might have been with Pillar, Longo, Yaz, Panda, Vogt, Dick, and Austin hitting that many bombs. It'd be tough to find 500 PAs for four OF and two 3B though.

I too hope Belt gets it just as a personal milestone. He's always looked like he'd be a lock, only to have some injury take him town or something. You figured the way he's hit this year that he would have no shot, but here we are.

Belt already has started a bit of a hot streak. Hasn't he hit home runs two nights in a row? Hopefully, it'll be more than just two games.
Belt needs to get going if he's going to reach 20.

As of this morning:

1. :kev: 21
2. Yaz 19
3. Longo 18
4. BB9 16

In past years, he was more than capable of getting on the type of hot streak needed to get to 20. His problem, then, was staying healthy. Maybe, now, he just plays through pain but it seems that he isn't capable of sustaining a hot streak. Hope that changes next year (if he is still on the team).

So, who was complaining that the Belt signing was a bad sign? Who argued that it was a good sign?

cal, I know that you are a huge Belt fan and maybe over state how good he was, but he's not very good any longer.. At least not these past two years.
Wait...

Are you saying it was a bad contract? And the Giants should not have signed it?

I will not listen to such blasphemy.

Good job. Don't let those negative naysayers sway your thoughts. You were right to say that the extension was a good idea . . . essential even!

Of course.

Hitting .260/w 21 hr's makes him our power hitter.

I look at him as a leader of sorts. Lays it on the line every game, plays to win. Kinda like a Hunter Pence type guy.

Yup.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm still pissed we aren't going to break even this season.

He is a great player and a seemingly wonderful guy.

Let's keep him as long as possible. ;)
