I think someday it would be nice to make the NIT meaningful by scrapping it and turning this into a 96-team tournament.

Gonna be 22-7 against teams that are not top 2 seeds after this pasting of Oregon.

Louisville should have rejected the NIT as a big "fuck you" to the NCAA for not only taking away their 2013 NCAA title, but also not giving them a chance to reclaim one this year.

I'd like the NIT to be meaningful as well, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Several years ago Woody Paige suggested taking the final 8 of the NCAA and NIT and forming the 'Sweet 16'. That would definitely make the NIT important, but not sure how feasible. 2017 would have looked like this:

NIT
Ole Miss (22-13)
GA Tech (19-15)
Cal St-Bakersfield (24-9)
UT-Arlington (27-8)
UCF (23-11)
Illinois (20-14)
TCU (21-15)
Richmond (22-12)

NCAA
North Carolina (30-7)
Gonzaga (35-1)
Oregon (32-5)
South Carolina (25-10)
Florida (27-8)
Xavier (24-13)
Kansas (31-4)
Kentucky (32-5)

It's an idea if not a good one. My thoughts were to let the NIT basically become a mid-majors tournament that would allow the good middies that don't win the conference tournament to not have to fight it out with the 8th place team from the B1G or the ACC and actually be in the hunt for a spot on the national stage.

We hear too much about how the middies are getting screwed on schedule and there's no doubt they do. They do end up in the NIT and if they win it, they win ... pfffft .... My idea would be to turn the NIT into a tournament of teams that have a chance through it to win the NCAA instead of winning something in a parallel universe. It's basically increasing the size of the NCAA field to 96, which has happened anyway. We just don't get to hear quite as many screaming color guys and 544,456 commercials.

That's a different rant. The NCAA is in control of the NIT anyway. Stop treating it like it's of no value. You don't have to kick good middie programs to the curb because they can't beef up their home schedule.

I think more major programs should have a "NCAAs only policy" and accordingly turn down invites to lesser tourneys including the NIT.

I was not pleased when Ohio State won the NIT a year after losing the NCAA title game. For major programs, an NIT title is the "black sheep" of accomplishments in college basketball. UCLA does it right and disowns its 1985 NIT title.

Matta should have been fired that year for accepting the NIT bid. Surprised he wasn't.

I am so glad that I don't have to listen to Bill Walton do ACC games.

Easy fix. Take every league not named P12, SEC, ACC, B10, B12, BE, A10, MWC, AAC and MVC and have their regular season champ ( plus a few at larges ) play in the NIT instead of conference tourneys. 8 wuarterfinalists get an NCAA bid and after that you're just playing for a better seed
