Let's begin the new year almost month late. 2017 News & Transactions here, please.
I heard earlier this week that he was in discussions with the Mutts. What's the story with Romo?
Here's a recap of this month's lazy posting in the 2016 version:
Edwin Escobar dfa’d by Indians and later signed by a team in Japan
Chris Dominguez signed minor league deal with Cubs
Jackson Williams signed minor league deal with Pirates
Waldis Joaquin, Juan Perez and Brett Pill have all signed minor league deals with the Tigers.
Ryan Vogelsong signed a minor league deal with the Twins.
Santiago Casilla officially signs a 2/11 with the A's.
Erik Cordier signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox and Luis Castillo (the pitcher, not the 2nd baseman) was shipped in the Straily deal from Miami to Cincinnati.
Hundley got a Major League deal worth $2 million
Grant Green signed with the Nats...
So did Mario Lisson (remember him?) and Jean Machi signed with the Mariners.
Good luck to EA. I think he can be a decent lower-tier starting SS, or a very good until player. He just needs to be able to stay on the field.Adrianza claimed by the Brewers
Joe Nathan MiLB deal with Nats
Hope they both do well and break north with their clubs.Adrianza claimed by the Brewers

And just like that, Adrianza has been dfa'd again. Looks like he is the newest member of the offseason dfa musical chair game.Adrianza claimed by the Brewers

I'm no contract expert, but I would guess that the Brewers claiming him off waivers means that the contract agreement is, essentially, with the Brewers, should he clear waivers.I was thinking about the split deal he signed. If he clears waivers he might be contractually obligated to stay with the Giants, not given monetary incentive like I thought the split deal did.
It'll be interesting if after all this, he just ends up back on the Giants.
Hope he signs with that 2nd, unidentified, club. Unless its the Giants. I wish him well, as long as its not with the Dodgers.Romo is said to be deciding between the Dodgers and another unidentified team......which is also lingo for leverage.
I know it was bound to happen, but it will suck to see Romo in LA. I still think he's a very good pitcher too and should have a solid season.

Yes, a player claimed off waivers goes to his new team WITH the contract (unless the Giants pull him off of waivers). If he is traded, the contract is still valid, and is payable/owed by his new team.
The only way the contract disappears is if EA exercises his right to refuse outright assignment to the minors (he has less than 3 years of service time, so he'd become a FA but lose his contract).
Nothing personal Romo. Just ask Brian Wilson.Romo is officially a Dodger. Since this is no surprise I'm not butthurt but it will be weird seeing him come in to pitch to Pence and Posey.
But I hope he sucks, we got a division to win.
