Where do they rank among WS winners? This is a team that went 103-58 with a +252 run differential, the best since the 2001 Mariners. They managed to underperform their pythag W-L by four games.

Probably still say the 98 Yankees. That team was just absolutely WTF ridiculous and they played a harder strength of schedule I believe.

Cubs are definitely up there though. Their pitching collectively might be the best (in modern era) of world series winners, ever. Lester, Arrieta, Hendricks, even Lackey was very serviceable. Absolutely insane.

Cubs just didn't have the veteran presence with the bats in some of the playoff games and more veteran teams were able to scout some of their batting tendencies down. If Cubs had their current pitching and maybe another 2 years on Bryant, Baez, Russell, Contreras and Schwarber was healthy for the year, no doubt probably the best team ever.

Cubs basically got a bunch of great prospects and HIT on every single one of them. Only other QUICK team like that in another sport that comes to MY mind is the 13' Seahawks. Carroll/Schneider just hit on basically every draft pick and Seattle just overpowered everyone, building what is considered at least one of the top defenses ever and biggest Super Bowl blowout/upset.

You'll hear no argument from me on the '98 Yanks. I'd say the 2016 Cubs were the best WS winner since then.
