2016 CFL Playoffs thread

Regular season is done like dinner - It's CFL playoff time starting next Sunday with the East and West semi-final games which are the following:

East semi-final

Edmonton vs. Hamilton

West semi-final

Winnipeg vs. BC

It is kinda funny that Edmonton with a 10-8 record has to travel east to play Hamilton (7-11 record) in a semi-final game and if they win that game, they again get to travel even further east to face Ottawa in the East final. Ottawa finished the season with a record of 8-9-1.

I'll just drop this here, but it's a rematch of last year's Hardy Cup as UBC will travel to Calgary to play the Dinos next Saturday. O'Connor was feeling it yesterday in Regina as the T-Birds upset the Rams.

Never did a quarterback make a GM look like a genius more than AC did for Popp - It also didn't hurt that the Als played in a soft East division for a number of years and were given essentially a bye into the Grey Cup.

Seeing that Edmonton at 10 and 8 has to travel possibly twice to get to a Grey Cup game shows more and more that the CFL has to tweak its playoff format. Keep the divisions and have the top 6 teams regardless of record getting into the playoffs.

Yup, agreed, either you make the change to have a division focused schedule (i.e you play the majority of your games within the division) or just have one division with all nine teams and the top 6 teams make the playoffs (1 and 2 get byes when 1 plays the winner of the 4 vs 5 game and 2 plays the winner of the winner of 3 vs 6 game).

/It won't happen because the traditionalists want to see an East vs. West Grey Cup game, but Ottawa with a losing record is one home game victory away from appearing in the Grey Cup. That just seems wrong.

Calgary Dinos turned a laugher into a nailbiter earlier today at McMahon Stadium - Up 36-10 at the half and held on for a 46-43 win over UBC.
