Saw an interesting article where the author did a re-order of the 2014 NBA draft based on current performance. Results were pretty interesting:

1. Andrew Wiggins, Timberwolves: Originally drafted #1. Drafts most capable scorer and is now starting to play defense.
2. Elfrid Payton, Magic: Originally drafted #10. Triple-double threat and the drafts best setup man.
3. Jabari Parker, Bucks: Originally drafted #3. Gets an incomplete due to his knee injury.
4. Julius Randle, Lakers: Originally drafted #7. Closest of the 2014 bigs to averaging a double-double.
5. Marcus Smart, Celtics: Originally drafted #6. Hard nosed player. May have had breakout game with 26 vs. OKC.
6. Jordan Clarkson, Lakers: Originally drafted #46. Re-drafts largest chart climber has shown proficiency with and without the ball.
7. Rodney Hood, Jazz: Originally drafted #23. Starting to understand the NBA after moving into starting lineup.
8. Gary Harris, Nuggets: Originally drafted #19. Starting to come on as scoring contributor.
9. Zach Lavine, Timberwolves: Originally drafted #13. Has become a good contributor off the bench.
10. Aaron Gordon, Magic: Originally drafted #4. Starting to gain traction with rebounding and defense as 6th man.
11. T.J. Warren, Suns: Originally drafted #14. Dependable scorer as 6th man.
12. Jusuf Nurkic, Nuggets: Originally drafted #16. Showed some scoring and shot blocking as a rookie. Currently out with knee injury.
13. Clint Capela, Rockets: Originally drafted #25. Has become a more than adequate sub when Dwight is out.
14. Doug McDermott, Bulls: Originally drafted #11. Great college shooter having trouble on stacked Bulls roster. Maybe a matter of time before he starts putting up Kyle Korver numbers.

Notable dropouts with original draft position: Embiid (3), Dante Exum (5), Nik Stauskas (8), Noah Vonleh (9) and Dario Saric (12).

Even with his injury, I'd still take Parker over Payton.

I would seriously consider Clarkson over Payton too.

He is an atrocious shooter.

Might be a little biased considering a Lakers beat reporter wrote the article. One thing for sure though is that the Lakers drafted well in 2014.

Yeah, I'm sure there's a bit of that. Clarkson was easily the steal of that draft so far. But putting him all the way to #6 seems a little much. Things will likely change over the next couple of years too as the players all find their own level in the league. Some guys that have started fast will fade, and some guys who started slow, will figure things out.

Maybe but not sure... Clarkson is the brightest spot on the Lakers right now and he still isn't given the keys... Scott is trying to give Kobe his due and get Russell his chances as the #2 pick Randle and Clarkson just get what's left and both are the reason the Lakers are even watchable at times...

Always good to do re-drafts but I prefer to do it 3 yrs. after a draft and not the year after.

One of the weakest drafts in recent memory.

2013's was much worse, and we've had an extra year to evaluate. All these guys just started their second season, and this draft has been hit with major injuries.

Redraft today ... Saric (Sixers) still easily goes before McD ... and Embiid still goes in top 8-10 ... and Exum still probably goes before Harris and probably LaVine. The Sixers knew all along Saric would still be playing in Europe -- why would he drop ?

Still to early.

Cj McCollum got picked 10th.

Before he went on a tear this Season, and put on a show in the Playoffs, I probably would have dropped him down the list.

As of now, CJ, Gobert, Greek Freak Look like the cream of the crop, with Schroeder , Noel and Olidipo coming in next.

I think this Draft is skewed in hellish sort of way because of the guy that was picked first.

Yeah it is way too early to be doing a redraft with this draft class.

You don't know until about halfway thru year 3 and sometimes even a little longer what these young guys are going to be.

Even Wiggins at this point is a huge question mark of what he will and wont be at this point.

Mine would be:

1) Wiggins - Best player, obv
2) Parker - Still take him #2, think he's gonna be a dynamic player when he gets his legs and conditioning back.
3) Payton - Very good play maker, but still suspect shooter. Could be rondo lite in another couple years.
4) Randle - Has all the tools to be a beast, but his lack of a right hand will hinder his development.
5) Capela - Man, he's been playing well for the Rockets. I could argue him to be as high as 2, but for now 5 seems like a good spot for him. He's got off the charts upside, imo.
6) Lavine - I like what I've seen in terms of development from year 1 to year 2. Think he could be an impactful combo guard if he can get some consistency on his outside shot.
7) Exum - He looked like he was going to turn the corner in a big way before his injury. Even with it, I still like his upside much more than some others listed below.
8) Clarkson - He's hard for me to gauge. He puts up big numbers on a bad team, but his defense is terrible and he seems to take some Kobe-esq shots.
9) Nurkic - Shown signs to be a legit starting center. Don't think he'll be a big time player, but very service-able for the next 8-10 years.
10) Smart - Shown some flashes of excellence but still too inconsistent.
11) Hood - He's got good size and a good shooting stroke. Needs to play as big as he is though.
12) Gordon - Guess the Blake comparisons were off base, but he's still a big time athlete. I like his motor and improved shooting, but he just needs to do a lot more when he's out on the court.
13) Warren - He just gets buckets. He could do well in a Jamal Crawford type role for a contender down the line. Don't think he's a starter though, better as a gunner off the bench.
14) McDermott - Think he could be a Kyle Korver type down the road. The problem will be who can he guard? Answer right now is no one.

Maybe I'm a homer, but I'd take Warren over a lot of the guys you listed in the 7-12 range. He's getting better everyday, huge upside.

I loved Warren's game coming into the draft last year. Think he could be a 14-17 ppg scorer(or more) in the NBA. I honestly don't know he isn't starting at this point. I get that he's great off the bench, but he's so much better than PJ Tucker. I think Tucker is the worst player on the Suns. He shouldn't be playing more minutes than Warren IMO.

I think in another thread I mentioned him being my favorite for a breakout player this year. I'm very high on Warren myself.

The redraft for me still goes on potential, as it's still too early to tell who's going to do what. Maybe it's me, but I believe Warren to have a lower ceiling than the players I listed above him. That's not to say he's not going to be a bad player. I think he'll be a very good player. The thing for me is that he's not a great rebounder for his position and he's also a bit suspect (from what I've seen) on the defensive end. I think his best role in the future will be a 6th man, but a very good one.

This above is right on. The draft has two real potentials and the rest are tweeners or specialists. That class was way overhyped

Honestly aside from last game which was very poor Lavine has shot well from outside every since getting major minutes second half of last year. And thats as mostly a PG.
