the whole appeal is $

but to be fair (deported), in terms of fan appeal, it needs to be looked at in terms of 2 markets ... canada and US ... you can put dogs playing hockey on the cbc in canada and people will still watch

in the US, imo, the outdoor games have become locally appealing events that dont really resonate on the national stage anymore ... in other words ... just another game ... BUT ... double the HRR

Interesting litmus test for me. I have always been rather meh on the outdoor games, but of course without the opportunity to see it live.
Now that it's in town, I still don't much care.

It will be very interesting to see the difference between the Whitecaps crowd in the same venue

seen some peeps belonging to the supporters groups saying they are planning to organize the groups attendance to this Mar 2nd game and behave the way they want to (which has gotten them a reprimand when they went to Canucks games last season) since BC Place is their house lol

and Gallagher:

Gallagher: If the NHL can sell an ?outdoor game? in Vancouver, they should try outdoor pools in Yellowknife next

And then, without a doubt, the ultimate marketing ploy: some cheap seats for those people who can’t afford to see our games in person.

This is really a test, an examination of the hockey market here that everyone knows is pretty strong. They want to find out just exactly how stupid and gullible people are when it comes to NHL hockey, and it’s pretty clear they are betting a fair bit of money that you fans are literally as dumb as a bag of hammers. After all, it costs money to rent the building, put in the ice surface and make arrangements for the game.

They are not content to put 18,000 fans in Rogers Arena, paying up to $315 for tickets while the same game is being shown on high-definition television in the very living rooms fans have just vacated to make their way down to the rink in the pouring rain. No, they want to further flex their marketing muscle. Now they want 50,000 of you to pay to leave your homes to assemble and view a game that will be so far away that you will need binoculars just to determine if in fact it’s ice or field hockey being watched. And the NHL press release announcing the event makes it perfectly clear right up front that the game will be on your TV set at home, just to shove it right in your face exactly what you’ll be doing when you buy a ticket.

I would do two. Heritage between two Canadian Teams and the one New Years but I agree they are having a Ducks/Kings outdoor in Dodger stadium .... really like that has any appeal why dont we just hold it in Mexico.

I agree, have 1 Winter Classic & 1 Heritage Classic, no need for anything else.

a facepalm to me thinking there would be even 1 $50 ticket available ... i feel shame

the gate on this game alone could be over $6.5 million

we can stop asking why they put on these "outdoor" games anytime

ugh hard to rant on something that was so expected. cant blame them as a business. this market will pay for it and in loads more in merchandise and booze. I see this as being $8-9M profit for the Canucks. would love to see fans not show up to this one. make them pay but the sheep in this city wont let that happen

Sales reps are saying the game in LA will be more than this. They dont know if there will even be tickets for non STH. NHL looks at fans and sees ATMs with unlimited cash.
