Nice. I was wondering about him. He (and UCLA) did pretty well in the CWS. How fast do you think he can move through the system?

And where will Slania wind up?

Big guys, with some power in the arms.

WAY too early for me to have any projections that detailed about any of these kids. I am excited about him because I have read a lot of other people say he was a target and has potential.

BA still does not show Arenado or Riley as signed, but Arenado has already been appearing in games, so I am officially calling him "signed". I have heard that Riley has signed, but until I get a link or see him in a box score, I am not adding him to this list. I also heard that Simpson, a CC kid from OK signed, but I have not seen anything linkable.

Riley looks to be the biggest steal of the draft for us. BA had him rated as the #150 talent, but he was not expected to go pro.

The guys over at Dr B's site were real excited about the Dylan Brooks signing as well. I know nothing about him past that.

I am almost positive there are a few other signings that I will update when I can confirm them.

19 signed out of the first 20 draft picks - very good. 8 of the next 10 signed, also very good.

Riley might not have signed with any other team if picked after the 3rd round. He had committed to Cal, but was at Willow Glen HS, and may be a die-hard Giants fan.

Found them. No stories about the signings, but I was able to see on their twitters that they signed.

Connolly seems like a DB, though. Oh well, if he can pitch, I am good.

So that's 20 signed out of the first 20 draft picks - excellent. 9 of the next 10 signed, also very good.

When you get 32 of 40, I suspect the Giants got everyone the REALLY wanted. That's an insane sign-rate.

I hadn't looked at these in a while, but just noticed there was one additional signing that snuck in at some time...

Wow. Signed 29 of their first 30 picks (#23 being the only non-sign). That's pretty damn good - or an indication that they over-drafted quite a bit (sorry, I couldn't resist ;) )

That is a VERY fair criticism. Arroyo was rated something like the #110 prospect in the draft, we took him #25.

Going with signability is good, to an extent. The story of this draft will be known in 5-6 years.

But they did get a few guys where labeled pre-draft as un-signable (Riley, Ragira, Slania, Vander Tuig, Arenado...) and they locked them up, so that has to count for SOMETHING

I think Vander Tuig started one game for San Jo, couldn't get out of the third IIRC.

He had a long season at UCLA. They rode him hard and won the CWS.

He made an appearance, that is all I care about. But IIRC (I am not looking it up), his peripherals on that game were not horrible.

I agree, I didn't remember it being atrocious. I was just curious why they gave him one start and then back to the rookie league?

Controlled scouting. See how he does in actual game situations completely controlled by the org.

Nice to set some kind of controlled base for comparison after they tear him down and build him back up.

He was making a fill-in start for Mejia, who was making a spot-start for Surkamp in AAA, who was starting in SF.

I was excited about all of it, Tuig being aggressively promoted and Mejia jumping to AAA, until I realized it was all a lie.

And then as Cal said, he was sent back down because he spent a long season in College after going all the way. In AZL, they can control the game any way they want to save his arm.
