Tyler Horan (8 - 252) OF
D.J. Snelton (9 - 282) LHP
Geno Escalante (15 - 462) C

There was a story earlier in the week about second rounder Ryder Jones signing, but he is not listed by BA as signed yet. Jones is a HS guy, so they may be waiting for graduation or something like that to announce it.

Here's his tweet from Monday:

From Baggs today:

The Giants have signed second-rounder Ryder Jones for $880,000, slightly above the assigned $872,100 value for his No. 64 slot. Though San Francisco has yet to announce the deal, Jones tweeted on Monday that he had turned pro.

If this is true, than we signed our #1 at slot and our #2 at slightly over slot. That is the bulk of our allowance, so I hope they didn't reach too far with any of the other picks, because they basically cant go over slot again (they will need to go under slot, actually, to account for the Jones signing).

Last year, they went slightly over budget for their first 10 picks. What penalty is there for doing that?

The Giants have signed all four of their top draft picks and nine of their first 11. Only RHP Daniel Slania (5th round) and RHP Nick Vander Tuig (6th round) haven’t signed yet. Vander Tuig’s UCLA Bruins are busy with the College World Series at the moment.

Two local high school kids – catcher John Riley from Willow Glen High in San Jose and right-hander Grant Goodman from Burlingame High – haven’t signed as of yet, and might go to college instead. Riley, who was coached by Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti’s brother, Steve, at Willow Glen, is committed to Cal. Goodman is committed to USF.

Just noticed something...

I thought the name "Jake McCasland" sounded familiar. The Giants drafted him in '10 out of HS. This is a kid they have liked for a while, so he is now, officially, on my radar.

I have heard rumors that Riley, Arenado and Vander Tuig have all signed, but I do not have confirmation yet.

Arenado and Riley were both BIG HS reaches that were signability issues. If they both sign, this may end up being a VERY nice class.

Didn't see the question until now.

Answer :

A Club’s Signing Bonus Pool equals the sum of the values of that Club’s selections in the first 10 rounds of the draft. Players selected after the 10th round do not count against a Club’s Signing Bonus Pool if they receive bonuses up to $100,000. Any amounts paid in excess of $100,000 will count against the Pool.

B. Clubs that exceed their Signing Bonus Pools will be subject to penalties as follows:

Excess of Pool .... Penalty (Tax on Overage/Draft Picks)
• 0-5% ............. 75% tax on overage
• 5-10% ............. 75% tax on overage and loss of 1st round pick
• 10-15% .......... 100% tax on overage and loss of 1st and 2nd round picks
• 15%+ ............. 100% tax on overage and loss of 1st round picks in next two drafts

Ryder Jones signed for about $8K over slot. If everybody else signs exactly for slot, then the Giants will pay a $6K tax.

calsnowskier - what are the reasons for bolding (or not) some of the names in your draft lists? You seem to be listing everybody who *has* signed, so what does the bold signify?

The bold is guys who are new to the list. The list is running, so I need to flag the new additions.

I have been using that format since I started tracking the signings about 3 or 4 years ago.

Oh, and the Giants' bonus-pool total is/was : $4,712,200. So they can 'overspend' by 235,609 and not lose a draft pick (just pay a 'tax' up to ~ $175K).

Vander Tuig is the only top 10 pick we still have unsigned.

Riley and Arenado were each top 200 rated pre-draft. not guys who should call for HUGE over-pays. I doubt they would sac a pick to get them signed anyway.

Nice. Good draft when you're able to sign that many guys.

Arenado and Riley are the last guys who I think the Giants are even trying to sign at this point. If even one of them signs, this could end up being a HUGE class.

Arenado and Riley are both in the fold!!!!

Early take on this draft is very positive!!! Great job, Sabes/Evans/Tidrow/etc.
