Lots of talk about whether Durant or LeBron is going to win the MVP this year.

I think the more interesting race this year is the Defensive Player of the Year race, though. With 2/3rd of the season done now, who do you think should get it?

More than likely Hibbert but who knows? Last year Marc Gasol came out of nowhere

No one deserves it this year. Same as last year.

But someone is going to win it by default. Will probably be Hibbert

I actually agree with all 3 of you*, I do not think Davis wins it because of age. Hibbert is the favorite due to a 2 year campaign, LBJ should have won it last year...which is neither here nor there. He certainly does not deserve it this year...unless you forget the first 45 games of the year.

*edit except shaneman :D and reasons posted. It is not like the race is out of reach for LBJ though, it may be a consolidation prize if KD gets the MVP.

It's crazy to think that guys winning DPOY like Marc Gasol probably wouldn't even have been third team all nba defense in the 90s

Great players are timeless. Maybe the style he plays today would not be conducive to the nobody but centers play D but their D is smashing anything that comes through the lane more than twice...but if he was trained that way there is no doubt he could play that way. Just like Bill Russell was a PF in the 80s and 90s and a tweener now he was still a world class athlete and the list continues. Roles and tactics change but great players are timeless.

David Robinson, Hakeem, Mutombo would all take up 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team all nba defense for centers. Not to mention throw in guys like Pippen, Jordan, Rodman, Payton, etc. and Marc Gasol may not even finish in the top 10 in DPOY voting.

My point is winning DPOY last year and this year is like Nate Robinson or John Wall winning the dunk contest

That is a really strong argument. Unaware of how voting worked for All D teams in the 90s I will rescind my BS meter...I will say he would probably be 1st team at least once, but Centers were very deep in the 90s.

The arguments I can make for Gasol winning DPOY would be Rodman, Payton, Mourning and voter fatigue.
