Florida Panthers 9 games played (4-5-0)
Pros
1. Tomas Vokoun (goaltending in general; Scott Clemmensen's proven to be a solid backup, as well).
2. Disciplined. The team has only been shorthanded 23 times (fewest in the NHL), in 9 games. Currently the 8th best PK in the NHL, as well.
3. Through 9 games, only 29.1 shots allowed per game. I don't know if that will continue, but it's nice to see the Panthers not let their goalies see the most amount of shots in the league for once (even though they did allow 41 last game in their win at Montreal...). Maybe replacing Mike Kitchen on the coaching staff with Gord Murphy has made a difference. Or maybe it's just a small sample thing.
Cons
1. This team can't score. The talent level of the forwards is horrendus. 2.67 goals per game (T-20th) with no real reason to believe it's going to get better. If anything, it might get worse. Take away the 6 goal game against the Lightning in the home opener (outlier in the early season statistic), and the team is averaging 2.25 goals per game in the other 8 games.
2. The team that can't score can't capitalize on the powerplay. 27th in the NHL on the PP. It's been a problem for years. (especially ever since Jokinen and his blast from the point left)
