20 years ago today, Bob Johnson led the Pittsburgh Penguins to their first Stanley Cup Victory
I had the priveledge to meet Babger Bob. Even though I've been fotunate to meet more stars than I ever dreamed of meeting, he will always rank near the top.
Any Penguin fans with stories/experiences from the first cup win?
If memory serves, I went to a game in the second round that year. There were some Pens' fans a few rows in front of us who were drunk and somehow 5 of them got in even though they only had 4 seats, so one of them was trying to sit on an armrest between two of the seats. This was causing problems before the game even started. A couple minutes later during the anthem, the guy was yelling Mario at the top of his lungs and at the end of it, he took off his shoe and threw it down about 15 rows. It hit an old lady in the head. A guy in front of him stood up and said, "you are out of here, asshole." Security came. The too many guys for too few seats wasn't a problem any longer.
Fiancee and I watched the game in Allison Park, then immediately drove downtown to witness the celebrations, then eventually drove out to the airport to cheer on the team flying back from Minny. It was crazy. The entire airport was full, and so was the parking lot. The bus had a heck of a time getting out of there.
Also went to the Point celebration during my lunch break.
That is a good story, Loco.
Well, it does end with a Penguins' fan getting kicked out.
I just will never understand why he took off his shoe and threw it. I think in his mind he thought it could make it to the ice. That, or he was just wasted.
That is awesome auto!! Care to elaborate on your meeting?
