I thought you were gonna say "Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play."

Imagine how well he'd have played if they turned on the lights.
i knew all about the controversy of the drafting of Pavel (ie was he eligible or not) ... I didnt know then canuck Igor Larionov provided "official game sheets" from Russia that ended up proving Bure was draft eligible
Tony Gallagher talked about the behind the scenes stuff that was going on. John Ziegler initially rejected the pick. Larionov provided the game sheets and NHL was going to investigate the authenticity of them but Ziegler made a backroom deal with Pat Quinn. ie Quinn could have Bure if he stopped proceeding with his defamation lawsuit against Ziegler (which arose when Pat Quinn left the Kings for the Canucks and was supended for a year)
this backroom deal was the beginning of the end for Ziegler as NHL commissioner
amazing to think about it today ...but the game wasnt even televised ...anywhere
/hence the shadows
those days had a unique feeling to being at games that were not televised. it truly felt special to be at a hockey game. it doesnt even come close to feeling that now when I go.
the smell of that arena, the cold feeling on entering it and hearing the ice crack from the players warming up. man I miss the canucks playing htere
those were special times.
