OK I know this has been discussed in other threads but I heard something on the radio and wanted to concentrate the debate in one thread.

Larry Bird apparently was just quoted saying he didn't shake the Lakers' hands after they beat him, that wasn't some expected thing. And the Celtics didn't shake the Pistons' hands either. So maybe it's MJ being a bitch about this not Isaiah?

I read an article where the author argues that Jordan's comment before Game 4 is what led to the non-handshake. Jordan said that the Pistons were undeserving champions and bad for basketball, so the Pistons weren't going to give respect to someone who didn't respect them.

Exactly. Don't tell the MJ worshippers but as usual he's the one being petty.

The Pistons really had to earn their titles in that era, so it is understandable if that comment pissed them off. Looking back, those Pistons teams probably don't get enough credit. The Celtics barely beat them in the '87 playoffs and they were unlucky in '88 before finally winning in '89 and '90.

Thoughts on the criticisms about Jordan have final say on everything in The Last Dance. I was kinda thinking that it seemed a bit overkill, and then yesterday I read that Ken Burns was criticizing that part of it, too. I really wasn't expecting someone like him to chime in on this. LOL. This series is a nice retrospective for Jordan fans and Bulls fans, but I don't think most are viewing it as some great work of art or as a serious, unbiased film about the Jordan era Bulls.

Thinking about it some more, I guess the basic question is would you consider The Last Dance as a good historical piece. If you didn't live in this time and were watching this series 100 years from now, would it give the audience a full and honest treatment of the subject matter?

I'd think that any doubts about MJ's pettiness would have been put to rest by his Hall of Fame induction rant, er, I mean, speech.

LOL. That was one of the oddest hall of fame induction speeches.

The bulls shook their hands the previous 2 seasons before when the Pistons eliminated them. Fair to see why they at least expected the same in return

Ok and I do see the argument. But apparently what the Pistons did was more the norm then, not what the Bulls did. It does show that the Bulls had a lot of class in losing, but much less so in winning

I also think it wouldn't be an issue if the Pistons did it differently. Walking off (right past the Bulls bench) with seconds still on the clock just made them look like sore losers. Maybe if it is done differently then it isn't a big deal but the way they did it was to be petty....that much is obvious

Huge Bulls & Jordan fan. I'm okay with how Pistons passed the torch.

I wished Leboner and his buddies on other teams didn't fuck each other in the ass after series completions.

Bird said they did not congratulate the Lakers after losing to them in the Finals though

You believe him? Also, i bring that tweet up because on last dance Zeke used the Celtics not shaking hands as the reason why they didn't

I am sure it happened when teams had profound dislike for each other as was clearly the case in both situations you mention.

But I also do not believe it was the norm to not shake hands. That is engrained from the youngest age in every kid sport league I have ever known. You shake hands with your opponent when the game is over. That is just what you do.

Pistons were wrong, if the Celtics did it to the Lakers, then they were wrong too.

And Jordan looks bad for still talking about it, because he got a championship which is all that really matters anyway. Let it go man!

MJ doesn't let things go. GOAT of pettiness.
