I'm watching this to see Coach Sloan as a player.

ABC says that they are going to switch to the State Of The Union Address at 9PM EST, which is around halftime. When that is over, they will show highlights of the All-Star game that was missed, and then resume live coverage.

I wonder why the NBA just didn't have the game on a different day.

If @MHSL82 were pretending to be @nuraman00, he'd say "ABC is the Worst Broadcasting Channel In Sports".

And in this case, it would literally be true.

This is hilarious.

* The broadcasters ask each other, on air, "Does anyone throw it back to us from New York, or is it a clean take"?

* At halftime, they have dogs on tiny wagons, chasing tennis balls.

* They played real basketball. This is a good thing.

* Dutch Masters cigars was a primary sponsor. They had a commercial of a guy smoking a cigar, while Latin American women grinded against him.

* Gillette Lemon Lime was another sponsor. I don't know about you, but I don't want my shaving cream smelling like lemon lime. I guess I am also not the Irish Spring type, which presumably has a similar smell.

* Sloan got the game's first rebound. He also was called for traveling. :(

The winners win $500, the losers, $300.

Everyone knows you don’t call traveling in an All-Star game. That’s like online traveling on the Harlem Globetrotters. Just kidding, you did say it was like a real basketball game.

It is All-Star Sunday, like Super Bowl Sunday, no switching except for weather (football).

This was on a Tuesday though. That's why it conflicted with the Johnson's State Of The Union Address.

Tuesday is a weird day, why not have it on a Wednesday? Or move up the start time on Tuesday.

The best thing would be if they took the real basketball from this era, and had more modern broadcasting presentation and professionalism. As in, the broadcasters don't sound confused as to when they will be on air and when they won't be.

Why did all males wear a suit?

During a Pabst Blue Ribbon commercial, they had a male wearing a suit.

During a John Hancock commercial for a father waiting in the waiting room by the maternity ward, a male was wearing a suit.

During a Buick commercial, a male was wearing a suit. Also, they showed an infant in the back seat of a Buick, in a car bassinet. That looks like the most unsafe thing I've seen. I'm glad we have car seat requirements now, with sturdier and safer infant seats.

During a Winston cigarette commercial, a male was wearing a suit, at a dog show. This ad showed an attractive female smoking.

And apparently, you can just drive 10 feet from an airplane and pick someone up? That's how airports were? For an Allstate commercial, a wife was picking up her husband at an airport, and met him 10 feet from the plane.

She and the kid then proceeded to tell the husband how their house burned down and was burglarized, and how they now live in a hotel.

I wonder if I can find Johnson's State Of The Union Address. It must have been some address, to interrupt a NBA All-Star game. ;)

My dream backcourt from this era would be Oscar Robertson and Jerry Sloan.

The Bulls were in the West, so they were on opposite teams. :(

I saw Jerry swing his elbows while grabbing one of those rebounds.

I wonder if Malone or Barkley got that from Sloan. ;)

No, Sloan was a time-traveler in a mutual relationship as coach player so he got his elbows from Malone. If not for Stockton and Malone, Sloan would not have tanked his time in Chicago as coach. But he knew if he stayed in Chicago, MJ would have been chosen over Sam Bowie and Portland would have knocked us out in 1997 and 1998.

Great post.

What about these ones with the Jordan Trail Blazers?

2000 Western Conference Semifinals Utah Jazz 1 - 4 Portland Trail Blazers
1999 Western Conference Semifinals Utah Jazz 2 - 4 Portland Trail Blazers
1996 Western Conference First Round Utah Jazz 3 - 2 Portland Trail Blazers
1992 Western Conference Finals Utah Jazz 2 - 4 Portland Trail Blazers
1991 Western Conference Semifinals Utah Jazz 1 - 4 Portland Trail Blazers
1988 Western Conference First Round Utah Jazz 3 - 1 Portland Trail Blazers

They're not going to lose every time to the Jordan Trail Blazers. They're the Jazz, not the Jokes.

This Jazz would have still won in 1988. I can say that because I just watched their 2nd round series, and think that team was great.

Sloan also averaged 9 rebounds a game one year.

Why couldn't he be a player-coach in 1988, specifically games 1, 5, and 7 against the L.A. Lakers?

It looks like they were a series away from the Finals in 1992. They should have gone instead of Portland. They would have had a better showing.

Mail Man averaged 10.7 free throw attempts that year!

How did he go from 77.8% FT shooting that year, to 69.4% 2 years later? Maybe he had a reverse free throw shooting coach. Someone that makes their pupils worse. :(

Malone might have gotten more free throws than Michael Jordan in 1992. Maybe that would have been the best year to beat his team.
