CBC?s Hockey Night in Canada window set to close - The Globe and Mail

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has one month to lock down the broadcast rights to Hockey Night in Canada for another decade. But with the asking price expected to double to $200-million a season, the country’s public broadcaster could be hard pressed to keep its 60-year lock on Saturday night hockey

if it means the end of awe shucks Ronnie, pj stock and glenn healey im ok with it

btw ... anyone still think the cap wont be increasing next year?

interesting ... going by the nfl playbook

And there’s a new variable this time around that adds another level of intrigue – the league is interested in creating an exclusive Canadian broadcast on Sunday nights that could go to the broadcaster who is either outbid or passes on the Saturday night rights

I know fans in Buffalo (Bossman, IPW) and those close to Detroit that get CBC want HNIC to remain with the so-called "Best on the Box", but as far as production and personnel are concerned, TSN is just so much more polished.

I am more than game to move it to TSN. Wouldn't they technically be SAVING money on that at $400M to be able to broadcast their own team (the leafs) :D I am so sick of Ron and the CBC, Id also think you would see a bit of a change in TSN by getting guys like Hughson and hopefully dump Weekes, Lee, Hrudey, etc. I do like the new HNIC theme but the classic is the classic. somehow I believe CBC will still get it in the end.

Jim Hughson back on TSN would likely mean he'd do baseball games again too.

I miss the 90s.

Personally I find it amazing that Stock is gainfully employed in any capacity let alone a broadcaster....
