I guess our difference of opinion comes down to criteria.

You are obviously taking things into consideration outside of individual, man to man defense.

Thybulle is a better individual defender.

Tatum the better all around player.

But, that's just my opinion on the matter.

Marcus Smart won DPOY. Robert Williams made 2nd team. Brown, Horford and Grant Williams are all good defensive players. The Celtics really don’t have any weak links defensively among their top 7 or 8 players.

The Celtics had the best defensive efficiency in the NBA this season, but if Tatum were 1st team all defense good, they would be an all time elite defense.

And while they are very good, they aren’t that good.

The Celtics have the best defense in the league because they don’t have any weak links.

Every other top defense has 1 or 2 guys that get hunted. The Celtics don’t, and their defenders are all proficient enough that they can switch ball screens without losing much.

Tatum is an important cog in their team defense, but he is not as good individually as you think he is.

One of the most impressive playoffs game I’ve seen by a player offensively and defensively.

You know what will change his mind?

Winning a championship.

Heat aren’t far off even if they fall short this sure. Injuries have screwed them over. Unfair to say he isn’t good enough because they have been right there twice in the last 3 years.

But they have a chance to get 1 right now. So get it done and silence the critics.

Maybe because Tatum is the alpha, so they figure oh we don't want to give the all defense to this guy because he's not a role player. That's just how it works these days I guess. Tatum isn't flashy with muscles like Giannis but to me it seems like his d is better. Yet Giannis is getting the dpoty awards because he has what LeBron has (muscles and flashy).

Kobe got all those all defense teams from 2006-2010 and Tatum has been a far better defender

They swept and shut down the nets dynamic durant\irving offense with robert williams playing a total of 30 minutes.

Then he eliminated the Giannis bucks with Robert Williams playing a total of 7 minutes and missing 4 total games

Take Rob out of the equation, his impact is the one that's replaceable. So you don't give the credit to midget flopper smart. It's because of Tatum and the on\off numbers show he's celtics best defender. Tatum also led entire league in defensive win shares. All the evidence points to Tatum being top 5 defender but media doesn't want to credit him.
