Because playing the youngsters, to the front office, looks like this lineup.

I am OK (barely) with this lineup until the trade deadline. But after the trade deadline, one or several of these players may have other uniforms. Then we really need to see a heavy does of the kids.

The only players (from this lineup) I realistically see off the roster come August 1st are Span and Nunez. Then, the Giants will slide Hernandez over to center field and replace Nunez with Sandoval. That leaves one spot for a rookie, left field. I think that means a rotation of Calixte and either Williamson or Parker.

what's the argument for keeping panik? he should have some trade value and the giants could fill 2nd base by platoon if nothing else

Maybe Panik gets shipped but his bat has been extremely cold this past month. The Giants may be less inclined to trade him due to lower value but it is also because the Giants don't want to do a full teardown so I don't expect more than a couple of fringe starters to be dealt.

Smart move by Bochy to avoid having to watch more of this pathetic garbage tonight from the dugout.

I don't know. The game is already lost. Might as well save the bullpen and make Cain throw 100 pitches.

Absolutely sad to see Cain go out like this. They should just place him on the DL with an "injury".

Bochy was ejected by the HP ump.

The lack of power on this team is appalling. Seemingly every RBI opportunity results in an out, or maybe a single. While recently the Padres and now the Pirates are hitting doubles and homers at will. So yeah, it must be the park. :L

Cal said a few years ago that while Pence was playing well, he was a joy to watch. But his mechanics were so unorthodox, that the decline would be steep and sudden. Cal was a prophet.

Pence is still a terrific clubhouse guy, but is completely out of gas, and if we actually had any OF's in waiting, Pence should be a bench player getting 2-3 starts a week max.

He and Crawford shoulder about 7 losses together this season just between the two of them. Cal did call it with Pence (although I think he expected it to happen a season or two earlier). Its too bad. I do think that Pence alone should be a reason the Giants are giving more playing time to guys like Parker or Williamson. Sure, both are struggling right now in AAA but let them play and either dig a big enough hole to get dropped from team plans or show enough to warrant a spot on next year's team.

Sad about Pence. I think Baggs the other day said that Pence had four (4) XBH at AT&T all season. That's really a pathetic lack of power and production from a guy who has been much, much better.

Crawford, I think, is still processing the loss of his sister-in-law. Most sports have a physical component and a mental component. Craw has always been a natural fielder, and so that hasn't really been badly affected. But his is not a natural hitter, and he's been in a deep funk all season. You gotta wonder about the grief.

I forgot about the loss of his sister-in-law. Losing a loved one hurts. I've been watching my wife process the loss of her father. I know that relationship is typically much closer than siblings-in-law but it still hurts.

It may be personal, but it also may be watching his wife grieve the loss of her sister. Anyway, ballplayers are human, and go through these things. I know that playing ball can be an escape from the grief for a while. But that grief can also suck the energy and focus out of a person.

As MSG has said (I think) there may not really be a good "why" for this crapper of a season, other than we were due for one.

This is what makes Belt so d@mn frustrating. 1st and 2nd no outs, he works the count and then GIDP. The man needs to drive in runs. Period.

And now Posey comes through with a meaningless too-little-too-late RBI. If only Belt had not GIDP. But then again, the Giants only score one run an inning this season.

Have Suarez start and put Cain in the pen. He can pitch long relief. But one more starter with a 5+ ERA is not all that helpful.

What does 'helpful' mean in this context? Helping us win? That's not really a goal anymore this year.
