This is the downside of having a lot of injured starting pitchers, and the starters who are healthy can't seem to last more than 5 innings. A lot of innings to be chewed up by the bullpen, so they aren't as sharp or rested as they should be.

This is the downside of having a lot of injured starting pitchers, and the starters who are healthy can't seem to last more than 5 innings. A lot of innings to be chewed up by the bullpen, so they aren't as sharp or rested as they should be.

Yes, but a counter point to that is two of them were expected to miss a chunk of the 1st half of the season and the 3rd was a Cy Young guy for 5 innings and has to be pulled due to pitch count, so I don't think the rotation would have eaten any more innings if everyone was healthy. Winn was a 6th starter on this team so his injury doesn't really have an impact. If anything, the rotation is doing a bit better than expected because who really thought Hicks would be as good as he is. I thought he'd be going 3 to 4 innings max most nights.

It’s a shame because management made a lot of good moves in the off season but every one of them other than Hicks has been from failure to disastrous. It’s unreal;
Soler, Lee, Snell, Ahmed and contributions they hoped to get from Cobb and Ray now look like they won’t happen as well
Then they lost probably the best hitting returning players in Conforto and Wade. It’s tough to overcome that
