There may be enough fall-off at Oregon this year to keep them from being in position to jockey for that 4th slot. However, they should be back in the thick of things in 2021 & 2022.

I don't know if Oklahoma can get back in the mix without an experienced QB, but Lincoln Riley seems to be something of a miracle worker in that respect.

I think the teams most likely to be in the struggle for the 4th spot are Penn St., Notre Dame & Georgia.

Good points. Should be a fun season to watch if everything goes well.

Will Oregon or Georgia win one first? @LawDawg please provide input.
Obviously, no one knows for sure. Takes good recruiting, good coaching and some luck. I know we are 3-0 against UF, and if we play football this season will spank that Gator ass again, as usual. Smart will go to 5-0 against Mullen as a HC, 12-0 all-time. We'll then see how we do against the better teams like Bama, Clemson and tOSU.

Kind of. I know you want to ignore 1991 Miami so we forget about that bowl game, but we'll never forget. Washington didn't get the real championship in 1991. But a coaches' poll championship is more legit than their other "national championships." You know, the ones where they were like #5 or #6 but still claimed it for some baffling reason. 1990 is my favorite claimed year. They had a worse record than Colorado and lost to Colorado but just plugged up their ears and went "La La La La! Not listening. We're the champions! La La La La!"
Nobody is forgetting...

The 1991 Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes who were (12-0) AP Poll National Champions after beating Big 8 Champion Nebraska in the Orange Bowl.

OR

The 1991 Washington Huskies who were (12-0) Coaches Poll National Champions after beating B1G Champion Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

That would have been a helluva BCS Championship Game or CFP Championship Game!

So.. Oregon? Sounds like Georgia is too focused on the smaller picture. Just besting a rival.

IMO the teams that win the recruiting battles for DTs and DEs are the potential natty winners year in and year out. Seems like there is a lot of talent at the other positions. Seems to be more of a scarcity for those.

Here in Texas it sure seems like we are developing a lot of QBs, RBs, WRs and DBs. Not so much on the line of scrimmage...either side. I blame 7 on 7 but that's just me.
It's been changing again. You look back from 2016 and on.. Ed Oliver, JMad, Jordan Elliot, Ross Blacklock, Marvin Wilson, Chaisson, James Lynch, Keondre Coburn, Ossai, DeMarvin Leal, Tvondre Sweat, Jernigan, Alfred Collins, JTavion Sanders, Landon Jackson, Tunmise, etc

Some of these players don't get as high of a ranking in state due to the sheer numbers of highly touted skill position players. Texas hasn't had this much talent along the DL going into the 2020 season like this in a very very long time.

OL players are the same.. Walker Little, Sam Cosmi, Jack Anderson are all on the top OL watch list.

I can't speak for the state of California, but here in Texas OL/DL players aren't an issue.. The only tough position to find is LB

In all seriousness to the OP, Oregon has a "chance" in the next 2-3 years if they continue to recruit at their current level and have minimal coaching turnover.

Once Cristobal leaves and recruiting takes a nose dive, look for a return to 10-win seasons being about the peak.

How about you fvck off.

Look up and down your roster and schedule then look at theirs. You had the better coach and then? Entman? I wouldn’t say he was leaps and bounds better than Armstead.
