I thought last year late in the season he earned the right to get a shot at being the starting TE. You guys think he's earned the right to split time with old man Witten?

Witten will start but he won't command too many snaps.

I thought he was turning the corner late last year.
I think he has the right to compete to be the starter.

If Dak can have the same confidence in Blake as he did with Witten, then I think he should be the starter. Wit has something no other TE has and that is Daks confidence. Maybe at some point though.

Tough call on how TE will shake out

Our TEs don't really block that well. Witten was very good once upon a time but wasn't good his last year. Hopefully it was him wearing down and if we watch his snaps he can be good again. Jarwin was not a good blocker last year. He is young and hopefully gets better. Schultz was better than Jarwin, but not great either. Supposedly he is the one this team sees as a real good blocker down the road. He looks like he needs to get stronger. I suspect he is a little better blocking this year. Really I suspect/hope they all are better.

So I think that is going to be the issue. I also think Rico is done here. He needs to be fantastic to make the team. I am thinking 3 TEs, but where I am going with this is maybe a 4th blocking TE. With Swaim gone that is my concern. Witten will start. I doubt there is a question about that, but I suspect Jarwin may get about as many passing down snaps as Witten. Maybe Witten on 3rd and short and Jarwin on 3rd and a little bit longer? I don't expect us to be great at TE, but I think we will mix and match and see a lot of improvement over last year in the receiving department. It's the blocking I'm wondering about.

I would hope so.

It would be ideal if Witten was strictly a 3rd down/Red Zone specialist at this point.

I'd be surprised if Witten doesn't lead the team in snaps by a pretty big % unless he gets hurt. I don't think he will play 90% of the snaps like he used to or even anywhere close to the number of snaps he used to, but I can't see any of the other guys playing more snaps than him.

if this happens. To me this will tell me none of the other TEs progressed as well as we needed.

I'm not sure I agree because I think they will both play and the team knows they have Witten for one year or two tops and will let them learn behind him and rotate all of them. If there was no Schultz I could see Jarwin challenging Witten for snaps but because the team is going to play both of them (at least what I'm assuming) I think Witten leads in snaps. I'm making up numbers here, but maybe Witten plays 65% of the snaps and Jarwin around 50% and Schultz around 35%? So I think they will all play. If they bring in a real good purely blocking TE then I think all of their snaps fall. I also don't think we will se as any 2 and 3 TE sets. I think Moore will use the WRs and more of a spread Offense.

But, if Jarwin both learns to block a little better and builds off of how well he played in the receiving game down the stretch last year, I will agree with some of the comments here and could see him getting more snaps than Witten. Ideally that happens, but I'm not sure it is going to unless Witten doesn't have much left. But, Jarwin was great down the stretch and added a new element to the Offense that we haven't seen since Witten was able to get deep on those seam routes a few years back. I'm excited to see how these guys develop and also what Witten has left after a year off.

my hope is Witten helps one of them (most likely would be Jarwin) to grow a bit quicker & distance himself from the pack. Hope one of the TEs distance themselves so we can have a true starter. If all goes well & witten does lead in snaps I am hoping that is just barely. Not by a big #. (basically pretty even between starter & future starter)

I kind of liked how Jarwin looked in the season finale against the Giants. Schultz also was starting to look better by the end of the season.
