I am a Reds fan and this would appear to be heresy. But as a wee lad playing the game, I had an issue. I am a lefty and there were no real good examples of how lefties ought to play ball. Yeah, there was Big Klu, but he was a home run hitter. I never even heard of Warren Spahn.
But I got this book once and it showed how Stan Musial played first base. He had once been an outfielder but I didn't know that. Anyway, it had a photo of Stan and showed how he fielded a ball and such. I said, "Stan's the best!"
Little did I know that he might have been the BEST. For his time, he was.
Once, we went to old Crosley to see the Cards and the Reds and the Reds won 9-8. But Stan had a grand slam homer. Beat that one!
