We've mostly discussed CB/WR/RB when talking about the draft. Now that WR has become less of an option after picking up Alshon and Smith along with CB prospect Sydney Jones (a player who may have very well been our pick at 14) out for the year .... here's some other options to discuss (no particular order):
OJ Howard TE Alabama
*** Absolutely love Howard as a pro prospect. I think he will be a fixture at the Pro Bowl for years to come and despite TE not being a major need, adding Howard to our revamped group of targets would be lethal. Wentz would have all kinds of options on every play and we would have an open book of formations to throw at our opponents. If you select Howard at 14 you would cut Brent Celek and save a mil on the cap; while Celek's been really good for us, he's simply just a blocker at this point in his career.
Hasaan Reddick LB Temple
*** After having watched as much of his film/tape I can watch on Reddick it has become clear that this kid is an animal. Right now he doesn't have a defined NFL position, but with his talent and abilities should be able to transition to full time LB in the pros. I see Reddick as a hybrid for us playing primarily outside LB, but can be moved to End in pass rush situations. While too small to be an every down, hand in the dirt guy … he would be phenomenal in a PT role as a pass rush specialist.
DE Derek Barnett DE Tennessee
*** Complete DE who can step right in and start opposite Brandon Graham. Not an elite athlete, so many people are mocking him later in the first round, but at the end of the day he will out-produce all those “sexier” prospects. I see him as a 10 Sack per year guy who can also do the dirty work setting the edge against the run (3 down End). Connor Barwin who started all 16 games is now gone and Vinny Curry who, was signed to big money, did next to nothing to show he was worth the investment. Barnett would fit like a glove if he were the pick at 14.
OT Garett Bolles OT Utah
*** There is a very good chance that here is our first round pick. I have scouted film/vids of Bolles the past few days and this kid looks like a really, really good LT prospect. Super athletic, has room to add weight and can get to areas on the field to make blocks that many other less athletic Linemen simply can't. We have a lot invested in Carson Wentz and Jason Peters at most is here for just this upcoming season. Matter of fact, if we were to draft Bolles, Peters may be on his way out after June 1st or even traded shortly after the draft for possibly a 2018 pick.
DE Takkarist McKinley DE UCLA
*** I know some people are really high on him, I am not one of them. He is the opposite of Derek Barnett in that he will make those splash sacks you put on youtube to make you think he's a better player than he really is. The problem is that I see him disappear from games or get blocked out of plays way too often. I'll put him on this list because some do like him and I want to be fair
OT Cam Robinson
*** Like Garett Bolles, Cam should be on the radar for us at pick 14, but he is not as athletic or quick as Bolles when I compare. Even though I do think Cam is athletic enough to stay at OT in the pros, I'd rather see him at RT instead of the blind side. So if we were to take Cam at 14, it would be to use at RT and move Lane Johnson to LT. At this point in time I'd rather just leave Lane at RT and take a kid like Bolles to stay on the left side if we go OT at 14. Of course none of us know what the Eagles are thinking with regards to moving Lane to the left side … so Cam still remains in play at 14.
Solomon Thomas DE/DT
*** Thomas is an interesting player in that he can play either End or Tackle in the 4-3. His versatility is what would make him the most valuable to us. Strong and athletic kid who's the definition of a tweener. We had a player like this back in the day, but his name escapes me … we would use him at both positions depending on the situation. I think Thomas goes prior to our pick, but I honestly don't know how I would feel about him if he slides to 14. I would rather have Barnett if we go Dlineman.
