If USC wasn't a top 10 recruiting team, I'd be shocked. In fact, without a single 5-star recruit, they almost ended on the loser list.

Loser at #4 in the country? Now I know you're high .lol. Oh and they did get 5*s

Did they? Maybe I looked at the list wrong. Let me go check.....

According to Rivals this morning, they have 0 5-star recruits. So that's where I get my info.

I accept your apology.

How in the world does Miss St not get recognized as a surprise story? Starkville is a dreadful city, no football history at the school, and yet they produce a top 25 class?

Miss St is right in the middle of the "gold mine" of recruits. You have Florida and Georgia on the outside edge, with Alabama and Louisiana right next door, and much of Texas is not very far away (although the state is HUGE).

Just by location, and their affiliation with the SEC, Miss St should never be out of the top 30, and probably should consistently be in the top 25 IMO.

Yes, but I expected that. He's a great recruiter. I'm talking about teams that did either better or worse than expected.
I somehow missed the first sentence in the op. Forgive me, it's early and I'm from Alabama.

24/7 sports had Oregon projected around 20th IIRC. That's impressive after such a poor season, but they still aren't far enough away from when they were a top 10 team to have a difficult time recruiting. It seems they placed about where they should be.

I'm impressed with Kentucky. They still keep churning out top 30 classes.

Georgia continues to blow me away. They have rarely won a big game over the past decade, and have won 2 SEC titles in the past 30+ years, but still bring in the big names on recruiting day. If they ever get a coach that can put things together, they would OWN the SEC East for a LONG time. Maybe Kirby will be that guy once he gets his own players in place.

I thought South Carolina did pretty well for as poor a season as they have had too.

Tennessee's class looked a little weak to me. I think fizzling out last year, when everyone predicted their SEC East dominance hurt them. They were beat up for most the season, so perhaps things will change next year.

For having a coaching change, mid season, LSU put together a darn good class. VERY impressed with it, in the middle of turmoil.

What happened to Ole Miss??? They were dominating the recruiting rankings just a few seasons ago.

Clemson absolutely KILLED it. With only 14 spots, they took 11 four and five star players! That is how you get a lot better with a small recruiting class.

eh, not really. The staff pretty much stayed intact outside of Les Miles, there was no real turmoil. TEXAS and BAYLOR had turmoil.

Oregon surprised me some that they finished in the top 20.
0 5*'s
5 4*'s
19 3*'s

Doesn't seem that great

Regardless, rarely do you lose a BIG coach from a program and still keep a top 10 class. I'd be interested to know a team that had a real successful coach that had a top 10 recruiting class the NSD after he was fired.

This was a different situation tho. Coach O pretty much coached the entire season and kept the staff intact, what did they really lose?

Any other team you compare to loses their entire staff, so of COURSE they lose recruits. This isn't that situation at all.

I'm sure it helped keep the class in tact, but to virtually lose no recruits just months after losing their HOF coach is pretty amazing. Again, I've never seen it happen, so it is an AMAZING fete from my viewpoint.

I see Ole Miss found out what it's like to recruit without paying players

Interesting. You think Les Miles is a HOF coach? REALLY?

He has a resume for it IMO. In 11 seasons at LSU (I'm not going to count the 4 games he coached last season in the equation) he won 112 games, 1 national title, and two SEC titles. That's averaging over 10 wins a year for over a decade in a conference that had, I think, 8-9 national champions during that time period. He will be in the discussions for HOF, and I could see him being voted in. Maybe he doesn't have the numbers to back it up though.

I lived in the south for a few years. I found the guys slow drawl annoying but the slow moaning of the women heavenly.

Yeah, I knew people would say that. However, the turnaround they had when the new coach arrived was incredible. No one can deny that.
Maybe so, but Taggert didn't have as big a hurdle to overcome as Matt Rhule did at Baylor. Rhule started with just about zero committs! JMO

Just last week the Gators were looking at being around 30th. Finished top 10. Huge jump in the past few days.

Oklahoma with their first top 10 class since 2010. Hopefully bob is back on track.
