1. I think the committee got the best 4 teams in so the system worked.
2. Penn State will be happier and more competitive in the Rose so it's not a bad deal for them.
3. What is broken is the system where conferences split into division as CCG's have proven rarely are the best 2 teams in and leagues are often unbalanced.

It's time to do away with conference divisional play and just take the 2 best teams in the conference for the CCG.

This year Michigan and Ohio State would have more than likely played again for the conference title but that would have been the right decision.

It sucks that a team that won its conference and a H2H game is being left out but that's why we have to end divisional play so that this stuff doesn't happen.

Just have MI and tOSU play for the B1G title every year and move everyone else to the MAC.

It could happen in a round robin league also. You are now asking conferences to be decided by opinions. Basically we will end up turning CFB into figure skating or Olympic boxing as everything will be decided by opinions of those judging.

I would advocate the conferences put in their own methods of selecting the best 2 teams then the conferences will be accountable to their members.

It won't work if conferences just let the polls decide.

So you want to be the Big12 now....Beautiful..
That would be no. We are talking about functional and logical processes not goofy stupid shit like the Big 12 comes up with.

No divisions and best two teams play each other for the championship... sounds like the Big12 to me
Not apples to apples and much more complicated for larger conferences. This isn't a simple concept and I don't have the energy to try and help you understand.

That's the point. Everyone thinks they know who the best 4 are, despite the fact they don't play eachother and the play wildly different schedules.

I agree with OP.

Divisions are obsolete. Instead, have everybody in the conference protect one or two in-conference annual rivalry opponents if they wish, and then play the other conference members on a rotational basis. This way, a team could play all other members in their conference at least every other year, even with a 16 member conference.

Under such a division-less system, in order to prevent teams from playing each other two consecutive weeks at the end of the season, simply have the top teams in the conference play a formidable out-of-conference P5 game the final week of the regular season instead of playing a conference opponent.

Some teams already do this.... Florida vs Florida State is generally the final regular season game, as is sometimes Notre Dame vs USC.

Conferences only make sense in 10 team or 20 team leagues. Either go bigger or go back. In a 20 team league you play every team in your own division and then the two best from each face off. It's just a more balanced version of what we have now. Unbalanced schedules are lame.

This year proves that CCG games are irrelevant in this playoff system and they should be re-evaluated. Maybe CCG's should go to a committee approach where the two actual best teams play in the game, similar to what you said? The problem is that conference like the B10 are just too diluted now. On any given year a team is going to miss playing 4 of the other B10 programs.

There shouldn't be a system that rewards blue bloods and the eye test. Taking the two best teams for a conference championship would completely take away from on field results mattering. Penn State would've been left out of the conference championship despite beating Ohio State and having one loss in conference, to Michigan.

Rematches won't settle anything.

I know Virginia Tech and Colorado earned a chance to compete in their title game, however we would've had two rematches if we let the conference just pick two teams. Teams need to be able able to compete for something.

No....OOC games should not be used to determine a conference champion. Only the conference games should count when determining a conference champion. And when a team is unable to make it to the conference championship game, they watch the playoff's on tv or buy a ticket to the game(s).

The BCS just rendered the regular season and championship games to be nothing more than an exhibition and we are back to the eye test or a popularity contest.
