its just friendly banter. We all route for the same team.
i am wondering did jackson go through the whole year without a penalty or giving up a sack ?
Long will make the team b/c the competition is just not there. The way you guys talk up Long he should start with no problem. But the problem is that Lavou or Kojo have a good chance of taking the starting job away. Now they are making Long take center snaps which makes him more versatile. So of course is he going to make the team. Not a bold prediction at all. GJ who was healthy at the time was the better olineman and played against better competition in college. So yes the pick Long over him was a stunner. GJ as of right now has the better NFL career.
As far as Murphy goes yes he would probably make the team b/c of Special teams and draft pick status. I don't see him doing anything for us on defense. Like I said before Murphy is not a top 4 DE on the team right now. Plus Hood has more experience at the position. So Murphy has a tough road ahead.
enjoy? what? gk and I have been going back and forth on Long and Jackson.
No...you go back and forth...while misquoting and not comprehending the English language.
Long should win the starting job with no problem...if he has continued his growth. You seem to not understand the English language with regard to Long and Jackson. Long came in last season and didn't give up a single sack or commit a single penalty. Does he have things that need improvement...I am sure he does...and I hope that happens in the offseason. In the draft, I wanted Gabe Jackson too because that is where the "talking heads" had him ranked. We drafted Long, so I tried to make sense of the pick and did some research. Long was a preseason All American and played very well until the injury derailed him. That is a greater honor than All SEC because the SEC is a part of the All American selection. I also read Gabe Jackson was heavy footed. So when 32 professional organizations ranked Gabe Jackson as a third round talent and the "talking heads" ranked him as a first rounder, I will tend to trust the 32 professionalal organizations over the entertainers.
Murphy will make the team. Come up with all the reasons you want but he will make it and I bet he does see some defensive snaps as well.
Now you wanted Jackson? You are the biggest flip flop. You love Murphy and Long don't deny it. lol.
Dean...you need to stop reading more into words than just the meaning. When it comes to the draft, we are all the same. We watch a little football and then read a little while listening to non-professional rankings. Jackson was being talked about by the "talking heads" as a possible first rounder. Of course I wanted Jackson but we drafted Long. So I looked into Long, and I could understand the pick and was fine with it.
You seem borderline illiterate these days.
When I brought up Jackson months ago you never said you liked him you just bashed me for be critical on Long. I actually had to give you examples from websites and real Raiders fans to prove to you he is the better player. If your boy Long doesn't start this year I think that speaks volumes about him.
Not saying I wanted Jackson when you are bashing Long when he was going into year 2 means nothing about what I wanted in the draft. I liked Jackson because of where he was ranked by the usual websites but I don't get pissy about it. You do realize that is how most of us form opinions? Unlike you, when 32 professional organizations pass on a guy twice, and in some cases three times, I am capable of changing my opinion because we now have more information.
32 professional organizations trump paid entertainers who do far less than the pros but far more than the average fan.
The reason I made you go to websites is you used a Raiders fan to back your claim. He is a fan and by definition biased. Websites are still just opinions and that is what you don't seem to get. I wanted Jackson at the draft, but after some research on Long, I understood the pick. I am fine with the pick of Long and time will tell which player is better.
Here are actual facts...
1- Long gave up zero sacks and committed no penalties in 12 (I believe) starts.
2- on the ground, Oakland averaged .2 YPC more but seven less yards.
3- we gave up 27 sacks and Oakland gave up 33 sacks.
These are what are known as facts...they are unbiased.
Long's run blocking is not very good. He is by far the weakest link on our line. But if I am sitting in the draft room at the time of the pick and I am deciding between Long and Jackson I don't know how Allen picked Long. Long was hurt at the time and Jackson played for the stronger conference and has gotten awards. So even after researching I still don't know why we passed on him for Long. There was more risk by taking Long then Jackson at that time b/c of Long's injury. Many fans questioned the pick.
We couldn't run for shit last year. Im not blaming it all on Long but he was one of the reasons why we couldn't run. When Lavou got hurt the running game went south. Why? Yes he did a good job pass blocking I will give you that. I just expect a hell of a lot more from this guy. Of course my Raider friends are going to be biased but I just cant argue against them by defending Long. I have nothing to stand on. Now the Raiders have one of the best olines in football. Jackson is a big part of that. If Long cant win the starting LG job this year its a huge slap in the face to Allen IMO. Now he is getting center snaps so even if he becomes a backup swing g\C Im still not happy.
The running game couldn't have been the actual RB's fault could it? Morris ran like a shell of his former self and Jones was a fumble machine which is why they didn't run the ball as much as were used to seeing. This Long/ Moses/Jackson/Draft shit is tiresome.
MY opinion is our backs sucked and that's why we didn't run it well, didn't have much to do with who played where on the line. No blogger , friend of another team, PFF, Means shit to me.
while the RB should burden the largest portion of the blame ... its a team sport, so there is plenty of responsibility to go around.
Hopefully having some healthy blocking TE will make a positive impact this season.
Krush you're right it takes all 11 to make it go but Alf's first couple years it took 2-3 guys to bring him down and last year hed go down with an arm tackle.
