starts do not matter. We had no other choice but to start Murphy for his rookie year b/c we had nothing on our roster. He started b/c there was no one else plus he was a 2nd round pick. So if he cant start with nothing on our roster to challenge him then there is a big problem being a 2nd round pick. I am talking about hill and hyde right now. Of course if Murphy gets hurt it changes things. Im saying if everyone stays healthy does he make this team?

So the contract that Ziggy hood got from the Jags doesn't mean anything? Doesn't mean Hood has talent? that was only two years ago he got a decent contract. I think it was 4yrs for 16m. So why would a guy who did nothing like you said get that contract offer from the Jags?

who cares about hood's contract he didnt play a game last season ? he has 3 sacks in 3 years and 7 starts

and starts do matter he was the best we had just like any other team . and again a lot of those 2nd rounders in that draft arent much better and some worse

and i am talking about hyde and hill "right now " their production is fact their supposed potential is speculation

Yes, but you are doubting Hood's talent. He wouldn't have been offered a contract from the Jags if he didn't have talent. Murphy has an uphill battle in my opinion. 1st he is switching positions and has to learn a new position. 2nd he is not a SM guy. 3rd there is plenty of talent ahead of him on the depth chart. The only thing he has going for him is his 2nd round draft status.

One of the biggest battles in training camp will be Murphy vs Hood. That is if we even keep five DE's. Can we all agree that the top four DE's barring injury are Baker, Reyes, Paea, and RJF? Plus you factor in the Idonaais draft pick makes it even worst. But he can be put on the practice squad or he can be a backup NT. Plus I didn't even factor in Crawford who Gruden mentioned in the offseason. Some people on here feel Murphy is a lock to make the team. I just don't see it. Their are more experienced and simply better players ahead of him.

maybe his contract he was offered can make tackles

Sadly, Dean you are overlooking the fact he plays on STs.

Good point. That is a plus for him. It goes back to what I originally said. He is a backup ST player.

Dean, what I think you are missing from dad's analysis is the expectation of a 2nd round pick and how Murphy compares to those expectations. Dad has shown that most 2nd round picks are spot starters and spot contributors in their first couple of years. Murphy has actually exceeded that, as dad has shown. He has been a regular starter since game 1 of his career and had produced. Is he a star? Absolutely not. Will he continue to be a starter? Most likely not this year. But he has not been a busted pick as evidenced by how he has produced in relation to his peers, the other 2nd round picks in his draft class.

This whole debate is about you looking for recognition that you called Murphy a bad pick when he was taken. You want us all to say you were right. While I also did not like the pick, he has not been a bad pick, but right in line with what one should expect from a second round pick.

Oh, and since you want predictions, I will predict that Murphy is on the roster this year.

lol. very doubtful Murphy starts this year. Kiem just did his projection on his 53 man roster. He has Murphy making it as the 7th DLineman. He does say that the Skins might not keep 7 and also says Hood will offer competition.

that 2nd round pick being healthy could possibly be cut this year. That is my point. A 2nd round pick who is cut in year three does not do it for me. Sorry.

he hasnt been cut , we havent had one TC snap , we havent had on preseason game snap so a lot can change you are all about a rush to judgement to the point where you ignore the facts . he is right where his peers are and 2 years from now that list will look even more different because 2nd rounders typically turn out to be avg starters

I know he hasn't been cut but its very possible. He might survive b/c of ST's. Im not rushing anything, Im saying there is a lot of competition at DE this year in TC. You totally discounted Hood.

lol. Murphy has done nothing at DE and has no experience. Its probably going to come down to ST's where Murphy ahs the edge.

so do we go younger and cheaper or do we go stop gap and old ? and if he makes it on ST then so be it as if that is somehow a derogatory

hood can make the team if he plays ST's if he cant then he will be cut and he should if he cant contribute to the team

the point is hood is far from a lock to make this team and his last 3 years he hasnt done anything at a position he has mastered so he could very well be cut we have seen what hood is in his career a rotational lineman . he is a kedric golston of de's a body you plug in when you have nothing else .

the only way murphy gets cut is if he shows he has no future at DE and at that he still is a good BU OLB because gallette could be gone in a year or not make it all the way back from his achilles injury .

murphy's versatility is overlooked by you again because you hated the pick and want to be right

Yes if your 2nd round pick is only a Special Teamer that is not good. Did Gloston ever get offered a 4yr 16 million dollar deal like Hood did? Murphys days at OLb are over b/c of the weight gain. I never said Hood is a lock but as of right now he is a better option at DE than Murphy is. We will see. Im just stating the facts skinsdad, if I am right so be it.

I also find that a lot of posters on here refuse to make a prediction and just state the obvious when it comes to issues on our team. Isn't the point of a message board is to share everyone's opinion and talk about it whether you disagree or not?

Absolutely. A message board isn't a right or wrong place as much as here is my opinion. No different than a water cooler discussion. If you read my post and understood what I was saying is you were repeating the same mantra that you have said 59495773957395933 times. We all understand your point, everyone who wanted to has issued a response. That is my opinion. Now I am going to let you go ahead and kick this horse around 2959275229594539593 times because I have said more than I care to on this subject. It will play out in camp. Smith appears to be playing for backup and Murphy appears to be playing as a rotational player on the Dline.

i dont give 2 shits if he got offered a 4 yr 16 mil contract it has nothing to do with anything he didnt do anything the last 2 years on the field and they dumped him as the steelers did thats on the field not in a meeting room

When Murphy was picked, it looked like yet another acquisition of a player who looked like a fit for a 43 defense while we were planning to be more of a 34 team. He was a tall lanky guy who looked like he could eventually bulk up to 260 or 265. I'm extremely impressed that he's managing to get up around 290. He does NOT look like the same guy the Skins drafted. I don't think he'll ever be more than a solid player, but he WILL make the team, imo. He's the kind of guy Scott McClellan loves, and the Skins will let him have the time to learn a new position. Hood's going to seriously out-play him to beat him out for a roster spot, and I don't see the Zigster likely doing that. The Skins drafted Murphy too high, but I'm glad he's on the team.

yeah we drafted him to high , i wont gripe about that but this is a long debate going on 3 years . he has played as well as his peers and he is in line with what most 2nd round picks do in their careers
