We had arguably the best defense ver. 1st in run D 1st in pass D and 1st in overall D. Those guys, all of them, we're tough mf'ers. Buddy knew how to pick D players. They showed clips from the Body Bag game, clips from Aikmen's 1st Thanksgiving game when the Birds just teed off and sacked him 11 times. They spoke about Houston's House of Pain. Houston brought through house, we brought the pain. I miss those days. It is too bad they never got a championship.

Was an awesome system that made Clyde and those guys great. The league caught up to a lot of it but it was a great D. So fun to watch back then if only we had any kind of O.

I have always wondered. What was it like when White bolted town? Was it on the level of LeBron type of hate when he bolted Cleveland?

It was tough because we kept hearing the Eagles did not offer him a contract. I was still pissed at him for years but the guy in France let those guys walk. I would have done the same. One by one they left and got rid of the guy who made them the most feared defense in the NFL.

I never got angry at Reggie, I was crushed. Braman always got the ire.

This still pains me. How in the fucking world do we not win the Lombardi trophy with that defense? Heck, the Ravens won a SB with a mediocre offense. This still kills me inside because we will never have a defense like that again. Ugh!:L

Buddy couldn't ut together an offense. It was all Braman's fault though. I'll tell you more when I get back from church. I covered the Draft for my local paper in 1985, and got a close up look and analysis of Braham. He was the worst owner ever! RIP, Reggie and Jerome!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad (in a way) that we can't go back and have a draft party like he mouth-off forum and then the kffl forum get togethers. I never made it to one myself, but saw the pics, etc., and looked like they had a blast. Just goes t show that you need to enjoy the opportunities that we get, and take advantage of them.

Anyway, in 1985, I covered the draft at the Vet with all the reporters who covered the Birds back then. Cataldi was seated next to me (he was a Eagles beat reporter for the Inquirer, and just another "shlub" like me). Steve Fredricks (RIP) was across from me. Gary Papa was Ch.6's TV reporter. I forgot who else was there. Anyway, Braman had just become the owner, taking over from Tose, and boy, what A "CHEAPSKATE" he was. We were seated at rickety old wooden tables and had one old TV to watch ESPN on. I would have enjoyed watching at home v.s the Vet. They served lunch, which consisted of some pre-made cold-cut sandwiches, and cans of soda. That's it! We were located in the Players Wives' Lounge - cinder-block walls. It was the most barren media room I could imagine!

Anyway, Marion Campbell was the coach, three years after Vermeil, I believe. I forget the GM's name - a friend of Vermeil's - nice guy, but couldn't draft. We had an early round pick, somewhere in the top 15, and were determned to draft an OT. All the top OT's were taken, but we took Kevin Allen, and passed up: JERRY RICE, DOWNTOWN EDDIE BROWN, AND AL TOON!!!! Mostly because we had drafted Kenny Jackson, PSU, the year before, and would have been embarrassed to draft another WR!!! Oh well, at least we got lucky, and picked Randall Cunningham in the 2nd round, which at that time was considered to be a "reach". Anyway, these were some of my draft memories of the 1985 draft.

As far as my comment about Braman, he never offered a competitive contract to Reggie, and had no intention to. Jerome Brown had died the year before, I believe, and this was after he fired Buddy Ryan, and hired Rich Kotite, instead of Jeff Fisher, and one by one, all the key players left in free agency, and the next year, Braman sold the team to Jeffrey Lurie, thank God. For the heat Lurie sometimes gets, Guys - he is a godsend compared to Braman.

If we ever have a reunion, I will share some more history with y'all! I hope everyone enjoys the day! Hug your kids and family, as you never know what the future holds!

Great story @old duke. I always thought the same about Harold Katz at the time? Maybe not, but to lose Charles Barkly or trade him for a dumster of shit players in return? Ugh! I hope these franchises turn it around and I think they will.

Ownership sucked back then. That's why I tend to cut Lurie a break. He has never hesitated to write a check...

I lived in Denver back in the mid 90's. I used to go to a place called Taste of Philly alot. The owner and I became good friends, to the point that I am an investor in the franchise.
In any case, we were sitting there one night discussing the Eagles, and this guy walks in. It turns out Norman Braman was married to his sister (he said he would post it on the internet, when there was one, so like everything posted on the internet, it was a pre-truth), he started telling us about Mr Braman, things only an insider would know. He showed us a few pics of his sister and the "guy in France". He told us that all the things the papers were saying about Braman were true, he could care less about winning or the fans. He was happy to be printing money as an NFL owner. It was a pretty interesting night.
He destroyed a team that had so much potential. He was FU-k-ng CHEAP!

Yes, he was cheap. He even made the players pay for their socks! Can you believe that? No wonder he's a multi millionaire. Good report Manny!

What good would it have done to offer him a contract? God had already told him to go to Green Bay ... you don't say no to that.

She said he would have stayed in Phila for nothing. He loved it there, they planned on raising their family there. That POS Braman did npot offer, not only a great player but a great human being a contract. What an a--hole

only true A-hole doesn't offer the greatest DE in NFL history a contract. Braman had no respect for the game. Was he unecessarily antagonized by Buddy Ryan? Sure, but Braman, imo lacked any semblance of the big picture. I think he did want to win, but he didn't want it bad enough and didn't have the respect for the game it would take to win.

Braman didn't care at all about winning - just making money as a carpetbagger and then sell to make even more money. That's up to him, but in pro sports, it's the fans who suffer with that kind of owner. Compared to Braman, Lurie is a saint. And Rey, with all do respect, and you know that I have much respect for you after all these years, Reggie meant to say that when he became a free agent, and Braman didn't offer him a contract, he chose Green Bay over other teams that wanted him, and as a Christian (and ordained Baptist Minister), he felt that God was leading him to Green Bay. Certainly he got paid handsomely, but he felt that GBAY offered him the best chance to win (and they did, as he was the missing ingredient they lacked to win the SB). Other teams would certainly have offered him even more money, but GBAY was the best option for him and his family.
