If Riley Dixon joins the team - we can look forward to some fake FGs and Punts. One of my favorite plays in football. Dan Reeves once had the reputation as the Bronco's coach as a daredevil on 4th down situations and out of kick formations.

Bye Bye Britton. I'm calling it now. New punter this year. Old money goes to Sanders or Marshall.

Dude has some serious hang time on his punts so far.

I didn't like this draft pick, but I've done a 360 on Dixon - he really seems talented.

What did draft picks Simmons, Parks, Janovich, Gotsis and Dixon have in common?

The were each team leaders - fan favorites - guys who made plays in big moments and guys credited with making the players around them better.

Although Colquitt came thru in postseason he was pretty bad most of the season and many of us thought he'd be gone before season started. Unfortunately, his competition was worse. Unless Dixon just flat out starts shanking punts all over, Colquitt and his cap hit are gone. Hang time is huge and from what I read/heard/seen, this kid should excel in Colorado air. Long as he doesn't kick it backwards, he should help Denver with Colquitt walking papers.

It has always amazed me that our punters in the past haven't had great air time with the thin air. I mean Denver should be a kicker/punters dream spot to land. While Colquitt has had really good seasons in the past and some big moments for us he definitely just hasn't quite lived up to the standard I would want in our punter.
I won't be upset at all if Colquitt is still with the team as he will have to really earn it this year with a draft pick breathing down his neck but he really better bring it this camp.

Yep. If he wins job again with his price tag, the kid is going to have to play pretty poorly. If the kid makes him work for it, that won't bode well for Colquit.

You mean rookie vs vet I gather. Not good odds but this vet is making damn good money for an average punter in Colorado. :)

Bobby Scarpitto played for the Broncos in the middle 60s. He was a half back, flanker, WR and Punter. He was a Notre Damer. In the middle 60s the Broncos were pretty bad and Bobby Scarpitto as the punter was the star of the team in 65 and 66. In both seasons - he ran 5 times from punt position and averaged 25 yards an attempt - a bunch of his 10 TDs over the two seasons were from punt returns.

He started his career in San Diego with the Chargers and averaged 40.5 yards per punt. In Denver he average 44 and 45 yards per punt. His last season was also at see level and Scarpitto playing for the Pats average 40.6 yards per punt.

By the Scarpitto scale of measurement - the Denver altitude made for an addition 4.5 yards per punt in his career.

With Dixon coming on strong, Colquitt will wish his only problem was remembering to bring pants to the White House.

I'm rooting for Dixon to win the job and I respect the career Colquitt has had - he will find a job fairly fast in this league if he is cut. The family name is punting gold.

Yeah I'm kind of wondering if Cd might of hit on something in his post about Denver never really having a killer hang time punter or really even a good dose of punters in that thin air. Maybe, just maybe, that air is good for horizontal flight, like the kickoffs, but the air is really not so beneficial for the vertical-ish kicks like hang time and distance for punting? Don't think I'm saying this quite right....Maybe the altitude works against the punters air/trajectory due to the flight than fg kickers because they keep lower trajectory thus the utilize the thin air the way it is most advantageous???? IDK...Not prob getting my question/ thoughts explained good but hopefully ya know what direction my mind is trying to go. :)

Tom Rouen had plenty of hang time - he went one year with a net of almost 47 yards per kick.
