Great to hear IC, all is excellent in Cali, weathers good (as always...ho hum) and I'm looking forward to some nice days at the beaches. Haven't been around much in the Cooler threads but as things really slow down before training camp, I'll drop by more to chit chat.

Good to hear, we need you around more as a calming presence amidst all the poop flinging!
;^)
Might make it out to N Cal this summer, the DD wants to visit Berkeley and maybe even Stanford (major longshot for her, but what the heck). Of course, she wants to visit at least 20 other distant schools, too, so we shall see...

Unfortunately there are enough people out there that don't care about anything but their own opinion and they are willing to force it upon others no matter their opinion. Even if 100% of NA were ok with the team name, these people would simply ignore it and keep fighting to get their way.

The ones that are gravely offended on behalf of all Native Americans yet would never be caught dead visiting a reservation to actually help Native Americans are the ones I find sad. Change the Skins name, YES! Ban the N-word Double YES! Donate time or money to the African American or Native American college fund?? What are you fucking nuts?? :L

That is why I believe many people just use the argument as an excuse to bitch at people and cut them down. Similar to why the show COPS is entertaining. Its fun to see others get busted but these types don't care if the person in guilty or not. I think it makes them feel better about themselves for some reason?

Hell no. Because to acknowledge Native Americans might force some of those suffering racial guilt transference to realize that they are STILL systematically screwing over Native Americans. Its one thing to tell a grumpy black guy that he is always welcome to go back to Africa. But what do you do to REALLY make things right for a group of people that this country tried its hardest to annihilate?? I think the main reason non minorities find terms like ***** and Redskin offensive is because it reminds them of how Shitty both races were treated LEGALLY by this country.

Actually as some have suggested most who complain about the name know little about the issues native people deal with. As some said in the piece posted by Master T and I am paraphrasing "we are barely in the history books when it comes to this country."

“Change the Mascot” campaign calls poll results “hardly surprising”

Here's Mike Florio's lame attempt at picking up the pieces from the Post's recent poll. Yes, the Poll only surveyed 504 Native Americans. But so long as the Poll is scientific, which it is, it's more than sufficient to gauge the sentiments of Native Americans in this country. (Indeed, Gallup frequently publishes polls which use less than 1,000 people to measure the views of more than 350 American million citizens.) The Poll was run by a long-standing, liberal American periodical, whose editorial board has come out strongly condemning the name as offensive. Yet, it, like the poll conducted by the Annenberg Council, another leftist institution, returned irrefutable proof of the overwhelming sentiment by Native Americans on this issue.

Florio also takes issue with how the question was asked, contending that Native Americans could possibly find the name objectively disagreeable but not personally be bothered by it. But the question is clear: it asks how the survey responder personally feels about the name and does not, as Florio thinks, ask two separate questions or elicit two possible responses. In reality, this is basically Florio and other name-change opponents' way of saying that Native Americans were too dumb to answer this question.

Finally, Florio thinks that the National Congress of American Indians' opposition to the name somehow warrants deference here. The easy answer to this lame point is that the group apparently doesn't represent what Native Americans on this particular issue.

In all, the import of this poll is obvious: if Native Americans don't care about the name, why should anyone else?

Exactly. The Post's article alludes to this by noting that a lot of Native Americans wonder why people ask them about a name they don't find offensive but don't care about serious issues such as unemployment on tribal reservations.

The world is filled with hyprocrites. So many who stomp on the flag have no inclination of ever leaving this country. Those who say let the refugees in would never have any stay with them. Those who cry for the rights of illegal aliens are the first to call BS when Julio gets a free ride to college while they're stuck with a $120,000 bill for their son or daughter. My point being 90% of those crying for a name change could really care less. Most of them just roll with the flavor of the moment driven by the left wing media. Others join the protest because they just wanna belong to a group... To have purpose. Most would give the answer if asked "why do u feel the name is offensive? Would answer "because it is." Not many understand the history of the name. They just understand the name to be offensive. Flavor of the day. Idiots who only follow are a very dangerous group of people.

Some where there is a multi million dollar law suite just waiting to happen in this whole mess.

Dream scenario...a beautiful woman who feels like a man that day enters the men's room and rapes me...as I murmur just loud enough for the guy at the urinal to hear.

Then I sue Target for those millions.

Thing is, he cant simply ignore it. They are holding two things over his head to try and force a name change.

1. His money. The whole trade mark thing is step one in making it illegal to print Redskins merchandise.

2. Team location. DC is saying they wont allow the team a new stadium permit unless they change the name. And the federal Government is backing this as they own the land in DC where we could build a stadium. So unless Dan manages to get creative and buys a HUGE section of commercial land inside DC that the Federal Government doesnt own, and is willing to do like Jack Kent Cooke and foot the entire bill for having he new stadium built... He has got to deal with this and get the right people on his side.

Side note, the Skins back in DC is the only positive I could see from Trump getting elected. Because he would appoint people who dont care about the team name to make these business decisions on behalf of the federal government.

Could always play chicken. Tell them you are moving the team away from DC and all the money with it.

That is why I hate liberals. I can't stand their hypocrisy. I am called a racist because I believe black people are capable of greatness and should be held accountable for their actions just like white people...yet, I have had a black family stay in my house with my wife and son while I was away and felt great about it...never worried at all. I have taken a black kid to Disney, bought them shoes and basketballs when I coached them...but I am the racist.

I have been called a homophobe but have been to dinner with gay families just because I believe in biblical marriage because I am a Christian.

I really love Hollywood and their hypocrisy. They get mad at CEOs making millions but think they should make tens of millions. They say raise taxes but not theirs. They are free to give more of their money but never do. They are ridiculous.

Mike Florio absolutely infuriates me

The people leading the name change charge are older white males working in the media pushing their liberal agenda while completely misusing their ability to reach a large audience by trying (and for most part failing) to sway public opinion.

Reporting is a joke today even in sports media. Journalism is dead
