That's interesting because I thought it was one of those 4 as well but for a completely different reason. This reason makes perfect sense and its one of those thigns that in hindsight makes one wonder how they didn't think of this already. It could possibly be a red herring but I doubt it.
The reason I thought it was one of those 4 relates to what people have been discussing about how they can keep who it was a secret during filming of season 7. If someone is suddenly absent, people will figure it out. I'm pretty sure that when they decided to end it with a cliffhanger they thought all of this through. I assume they have a plan for that. Otherwise, why not just show it to end the season if there's a good chance people will find out before the premier anyway? All they would need to do is have that actor present as often (or reasonably close to it) as the actors of the other potential candidates. We've seen characters left off several episodes at a time or appear very little. A lot of the first half of the season could focus on Carol and Morgan and/or Tara and Heath, with the occasional look in on Spencer and Gabriel and the rest of Alexandria. Obviously they can't completely ignore this set of characters. We'll have to have a scene that immediately picks up where this season left off to reveal who it was, so that would naturally include the actor. How else are they going to give the actor approximately the same screen time as the other candidates? They could be a zombie but I doubt that would last long. It would most likely have to be done through flashbacks as others have mentioned. I think at that point in the story it would make a lot more sense to show a flashback to show what happened with Daryl, Glen, Michonne, and Rosita after being caught and before the final scene of the season. We have a general idea but there's still a bit of a gap there and it could be interesting to show some interaction they might have had with Negan, Dwight, and some other saviours. I really can't see how a flashback that would include anyone that was travelling in the RV with Rick would fit into the story at this point,

I cant imagine they will go that route with the premiere. The premieres have always been rather good..Since I am one of those who doesn't necessarily need an action-packed episode, but does sorta demand that the plot move forward? I will be unbelievably pissed if the entire season is a flashback or a "Meanwhile, let's see what Heath and Tara have been up to..." or what have you...
...But as usual, AMC didn't ask me.

S1 - Pilot. GREAT episode with a lot of re-watch-ability.
S2 - The group gets stopped on the highway because of the traffic jam and the herd comes. Sophia goes missing and Carl gets shot. A very strong episode.
S3 - They find and clear the prison. Hershel loses his leg. They meet the inmates.
S4 - The illness takes hold. Bad episode, granted.
S5 - Carol turns into Rambo. GREAT episode!
S6 - They clear the quarry. Some strategy holes, but a good, action-filled episode.
This is not directed at you, specifically, but I've got a rant, and you triggered its release.
I'm sofa king tired of hearing about how AMCs budget will prevent them from doing this or doing that. It's bullshit. They've got one of the most popular shows on cable television ever, which appeals to and captures one of the most coveted and elusive demographics in advertising.
They've had some pretty grand scenes and special effects, particularly over the last few seasons. I've neither the time nor inclination to research this, but I highly doubt TWD would be the first television program to feature a tiger. Shit, I was a trade show where a small(ish) company had a live fucking Kodiak bear in it's booth. You're telling me a tiger is out of reach for TWD? I'd bet Gunther Gebel-Williams has a nephew or two that would bring a tiger around for less than the cost of an Escalade.
I'm not suggesting that AMC/TWD has an unlimited budget, but unless someone who works for AMC or TWD's production team has actually been in the planning/budgeting meetings, I wish we could all just STFU about financial constraints.
Honestly your very plausible theories on filming/storylines once again prove how fucking stupid this was.
For the sole purpose of having a pointless fan angering cliff hanger they will possibly have to resort to flashbacks, having many characters skip episodes, wait to fully show what happened etc...
There is a strong chance you are somewhat right. And by God is it gonna make them look like bigger fucking assholes.
Good call on Carol/Kingdom. I can totally see that happening.I think it should be Glenn that gets Lucilled, but part of me now thinks they're gonna off Darryl. They should have Negan cut Rick's hand off too! That'd be awesome!
Will Carol assume Michonne's comic-role regarding the Kingdom?
The way things are going, it makes sense. Will Carol assume Michonne's comic-role regarding the Kingdom?
