Went out to dinner and hung out with friends so I skipped this one... looks like I'll just go hit 'Delete' on the DVR; thanks for the recap filo/korky/everyone else!

This team is still pretty shitty, sounds like, eh? I got Detroit in 6 in the next series, regardless. This defense and goaltending can't possibly come out on top against Detroit. Nothing to really get excited about (for me), even if they manage to do what everyone expects and get past LA.

Actually its a game worth watching imho, although the outcome isn't in our favor obviously. Sharks win this game 99/100 times. Sharks were throwing the rubber at him from all over the ice - hell, cooch had three point blank opportunities and he doesn't miss often. Problem with the game was a shaky start in the first and maybe 2 bad goals by Niemi. Other than that - we played the way you would hope we played all the time.

Heater, Wallin (that's just automatic) had poor games - Clowe looked a little lost to me as well at times. I'd like to see a little more driving to the net but honestly, they through everything at him but trick shots and plumbing. Credit Quick - he deserves a gold star for sure.

I don't watch or like baseball at all. It is like watching grass grow. But, if TMac was Bruce Bochy, Heatley and Wallin would be sitting on the pine now. Braun or Huskins would be in, and maybe Dejardins or Fairy-O up front.

Why Jamie McGinn? Where was Eager? I think Eager made more of an impact than McGinn last night. McGinn did his best Jimmy Hoffa impression last night again as he flat disappeared the whole night.

52 shots and 1 goal. I have seen that act before this year. Mostly early in the season. Sharks throw tons of rubber and can't score. They had that stretch there at home where they would have huge shot totals (40+) and be lucky to get 2 goals. This team led the league in shots, but many nights had difficulty finding the net.

I share many of the same thoughts as you guys. Sharks played well. Some of their shots hit Quick in the mid section, some he made very good saves on. If it wasn't for that stretch of 5 minutes, where Niemi played like he did in October, the Sharks would have been okay. After the Sharks scored the first goal and continued to apply consistent pressure, I thought for sure they would tie it up eventually. I'm happy with the level of effort and execution 5 on 5.

Get 'em next time.

Damn, tough loss. Sharks outplayed the Kings by a mile, but didn't get the win. Gotta give full credit to Quick. The kid played out of his mind and deserved the win. Sharks now have to go play a game 6 on the road. If they don't win there, it will be another 7 game first round where even if they win the series.....

I really hope Heatley and Wallin have sore vagina's for next game. God those two are fucking worthless.

I wouldn't say the Sharks outplayed the Kings by a mile, but certainly I dont think the Sharks should be too upset with how the game unfolded. If they play the same game 2 more times they will almost certainly advance to the next round.

A few bad turnovers and bad goaltending led to an early hole (again!), and then you gotta give the Kings credit for playing decent team D. It was not until the third period that the Sharks really had consistent great chances to score.

Sharks played hard, can't fault them for that. Quick was the best player on the ice, sometimes theres nothing you can do.

If the Sharks can't close it out on Monday, the pressure will be fully on them in Game 7, being on the verge of blowing a 3-1 series lead. Based on Games 2 and 5, the Kings feel right at home at HP Pavilion (especially Quick). Those turnovers by Boyle and Wallin that directly led to LA goals were inexcusable, and Niemi was awful for the third time in the series. With the inconsistent and uneven level of play, this team isn't going past the next round even if they manage not to blow this series.

lets be honest outside of neimi shitting the goal crease in the first, the sharks completely dominated that game in all areas except goaltending. and how many bounces did the sharks get that game? I can think of only 1, and that was the post hit when nitty was in net.

the kings cannot count on that kinda luck again.

I'm still amazed at the stupidity of Heatley's penalty on Martinez in the offensive zone with the Sharks leading 6-3 late in Game 4. I wish we had Michalek and Cheechoo back on the team instead of this loser.

Instead of signing Wallin to that ridiculous contract, DW should've instead tried to sign Malhotra. The broadcasters talk about Wallin's leadership abilities, but they should talk more about this turnover abilities.

welcome to SJ! This team is and has always been horribly inconsistent the past 5+ years. That's the thing about the sharks: when they are on, they are nearly impossible to beat. Jumbo, patty and co can absolutely takeover games when they try their absolute hardest on both sides of the puck. However, they can also disappear terribly. Those two especially have a way lower per game production in the PO's then in the regular season, particularly jumbo. He averages just 12 goals/82 games in the PO's and only about 50 pts.

You want guys who actually pick up their game when it matter most and bring it every night. You wont win every game, but at the very least they can bring it. The sharks have been down 3-0 in 3 of the first 5 games. That's unacceptable.

Scary to think how things would be now if Kopitar had not been injured. With the Sharks playing the way they have, the Kings would've already won the series or at least be the ones ahead right now.

While Kopitar is a great player you guys are highly underrating the rest of their roster. If they could have stayed healthy you're looking at a roster that can bolster 9, possibly 10, 20 goal scorers plus two increadible offensive dmen.

This.

That and if the Kings had Kopitar the entire year, they're probably the 4th seed overall and we're playing the Ducks or the Coyotes.

Who are their 20 goal scorers?

I count simmonds, smyth, williams, kopitar, stoll, Brown. I suppose Penner as well given the trade. Its a stretch to list ponikarovski or handzus though I suppose it's possible.

That said, none of those guys are superstars aside from kopitar. It's a bunch of 2nd and 3rd liners who shouldnt be holding a candle to thronton, marleau, heater and company. Doughty is a superduper star and a total stud, but nevertheless, this is a team that couldnt score and then their leading scorer by a mile goes down and they still are outscoring the sharks this series.

The sharks are struggling to handle kyle clifford and brad richardson. I mean, come on... that's like nichol and mayers dominating. How anyone can say these teams are anywhere near even must stem only from the historic playoff chokes that gives the sharks opponents a nice edge.

if they do get by LA, it will be interesting to see how they match up against detroit or chicago, teams will real players...

Dude, it's the Sharks, what do you expect? If the Sharks have two "superstar" players in Heatley and Boyle who are playing terrible and two "superstar" players in Thornton and Marleau that are playing average.....and they still lead the series 3 games to 2 with terrible goaltending. Don't know what else there really is to say.

Should the Sharks have won this series in 5 given Kopi's injury? Yes. But the Kings are a hardworking team with an awesome defense and a good goalie. Sharks are playing ho-hum some of these games and it's killing them. Not a new story. Good news is they played very well yesterday and they deserved to win. Now its up to them to show mental toughness or get the feck out of the way.

Also dude, you make it sound like 7 potnetial 20 goal scorers is something to sneeze at. In the playoffs, balanced scoring, good defense and a good goalie gets you far. The Kings have been getting equal balance in scoring amongst the lines, equally bad defense, lol and better goaltending.

Ryan Smyth was a guy that I was hoping the Sharks go after when he became FA. His Oilers team killed us last time, he might be a bit slower and older now but he has a big heart.

For the record before this series started i said the kings were going to be a lot tougher then most of you guys though. I also predicted 5 games, and it would've been had it not been for Nemo.

The team isnt playing bad its been Nemo, so getting pissy about the skaters your anger is misdirected.

Take away those subpar games and this series is over, hell just take away one bad game or just have nemo play an average game in game 5 this series is probably over.

The amount of over reacting during this series is mind boggling

no question that nemo has flat out stunk this series, but in the two losses the sharks have a combined 1 goal. It's just like every year, people balme the goalie when the team can't score. They blamed nabby despite him getting about a goal per game average of support in the losses.

They have a total on 1 1st period goal. That's terrible and puts a ton of pressure on your D and netminder. This team is up and that's obviously good, but there are major major problems that will be exposed by a better team if they dont get fixed in the next week.

Even the merc has a whole story on how inconsistent the sharks are and how they dont care some of the time. It's their MO, its well known, but it's rediculous to be known as the most talented team that chooses not to show up and get's high on itself. Even Tmac equates himself to a parent! That makes sense for a team lkke edmonton where half the roster can't legally drink, but when you are a parent to 30+ year olds becasue they act like rookies, then that's amazing.
