Right now the narrative surrounding the Broncos is they are losers in free agency. Jackson, Trevathon, and now Osweiler gone. Other players cut/released/RFAs with tenders other teams can outbid. Manning retired. Already Chiefs and Raiders fans are penciling in wins against the Broncos and Chiefs fans at AP are predicting the Chiefs to win the AFC West for the next three years.

But the Broncos haven't even gotten started yet. They're going to look good coming out of FA and the draft. It's tough to see so many players leave, but it's a business. A business Elway is very good at.

Thats a great way to look at it. Last year I loved how we were more under the radar and the season ended up being pretty ok I guess.
The other side of that though is looking at all these huge contracts like Vernons and hearing who 'won' free agency after one day. I get why they write shit like that but it hurts to see because you can tell already that those contracts will hurt the team long term. Worst part is these same writers will talk about how bad of a signing it was years from now...The real power of these contracts are in the details and im glad that people on this board seem to understand that

Sorry...misread what you wrote. Thought you were hinting towards the fact that fans get things wrong when it comes to voting for the Pro Bowl which is true. I mean Manning for a while was top-5 for the QB position.

You know I am good for a random fact a day. Really to me this boils down to the bad teams that have a ton of cap space are just looking to make a splash rather than looking 3 years into the future of what their team will look like. So they go spend big on a guy that maybe doesn't fit their scheme or because that player was on a winning organization automatically just assume they are great.

Just using this as an example...Malik Jackson. With the Denver Broncos he looks great. I'm not saying he is a bad player by any means and I do think he will do well for the Jaguars. Still on the Broncos defense he is maybe the 6th or 7th best defensive player. Because of that a lot of his game tape is him playing one-on-one situations which you are hoping he can win those. For the Jaguars though all of a sudden he is a top 2-3 guy for them on that defense and teams are singling him out as a guy to stop. So next thing you know his numbers don't look as good and people are going why? Well not because he is a worse player but because he doesn't have the same opportunities that he did in Denver.

This is why long-term many times a player might actually be better off taking less to stay in a good situation than to go somewhere new. Look at Brock's contract. It is essentially a 2-year deal. He has to produce right away. There is no time for growing pains as he learns how to start an entire season learning a new offense and learning with new pieces. He is expected to be a Pro Bowl type talent from day 1 now. Otherwise in 2-years he is gone. So while he would get that $37 million in guaranteed money that might be it for him. While with the Broncos because they have invested in him and he already knows the scheme the adjustment might not be as much and they might commit to him longer than just that 2-year window even if he struggles some.

that was the point I have been harping on .. Home town discounts end up being a Boone for players in long run .

Taking a smoke screen payday is really bad for the long haul of NFL Career .. it also shows you really don't belive in yourself if you take money over longevity

It is not so much about believing in yourself but in understanding that your NFL career could end at any point. JPP is a great example. The Giants offered him a huge contract before they signed him to the Franchise Tag. He turned it down thinking he could squeeze some more money out of them and if not play on the FT have a great season and get an even bigger contract the next year. Well 4th of July happened and well now he is on a year to year basis contract and if he has a bad year his entire career is over.

So for a lot of these players they see that this next season they can make $25 million with all the signing bonus and guaranteed money and know they will have their family taken care of whether they get hurt or not for the rest of their life. Hard to turn that down in the hopes that your body will hold up for the next 4-5 years to maximize the contract. To me it is a risk either way for the players and I don't blame them for going either way.

Wow, it's been a busy week. I've tried my best to keep up with all the articles predicting doom and despair for the Broncos but work has been obscene lately and I've just barely been able to follow along with the basics since FA started.

But I found gold tonight and thought I'd share it.

Last year Matt V. of Arrowhead Addict wrote an article predicting the Broncos in 2015 would miss the playoffs, while his Kansas City Chiefs would win the AFC West. This year some other tool has written another article echoing the same basic idiotic themes. This one is especially idiotic because even Matt V. waited until after the draft to share his tripe. This clown didn't even do that. There's a long way to go before the roster of 2016 is finalized. I think articles like this should at least wait until after the draft!
